Secret World Legends’ Dark Agartha is open

So fungus are evil?

Have you ever been ambling through Agartha in Secret World Legends and thought that the place seems oddly foreboding and sinister? The good news is that it’s not; there are good things for all within the player hub. The also good news is that it gets to be nicely sinister when players venture into the Dark Agartha, previewed in detail on the official site and live today. Just be warned that in order to travel there, you’ll need to give up a portion of your own anima in the form of AP and SP.

Once within, players will face off against an ever-changing array of foes with different techniques, seeing the threats of the future rearrange themselves as the timeline alters. The challenges are meant to be for high-level players and offer concurrent high-level rewards, like the ability to bring player glyphs up to the fourth tier… and there should be even more within the twisted reaches. So players will have a changing layout and even greater heights of power to achieve in the process.

So who played it? How is it?

They really should start working on the Tokyo dungeons. They are brilliant and include some important story tidbits. It’s been 2 years now, they should have been able to at least implement all the content which was available in TSW.

The AP/SP cost has me concerned given that I’ve still got a long ways to go in grinding both (because I have no interest in grinding)…it really seems like outside of the SA content they’re really angling for content for their hardcore playerbase (which makes sense to a point) but not for more casual folks who dive in and out.

I’ll try to find more info and see how it is tonight, but I’m worried this is going to be the same as the last few content updates. Promising and exciting until they arrived, and while there were some great bits they were inevitably disappointing for a number of reasons (SA because it was too short, even though it was good, and the faction missions because of the arbitrary and stupid IP requirements).

It sounds like the first visit is free but I wonder, is that the first visit every day or first visit only?

Either way it sounds like content for endgame players who’ve done everything else and would otherwise be bored. Considering the last content update was story, I think it’s fair to give the endgame over geared players some repeatable endgame content they can do. Plus, it’s solo content which is a bonus I think for this game. Not many want to do group content I’d think in SWL.

SWL has done it again, got me excited for new content only for that excitement to immediately turn to disappointment when they reveal the gatekeeping restrictions.

It feels like they’ve been aiming most of their recent content updates (Faction missions, Stonehenge simulation, now Dark Agartha) at the 1% of hardcore endgame players. Probably because they’re the people who spend the most money on the game?

But how difficult would it have been to create a “Story Mode” for Dark Agartha (as they did for the dungeons and the Manhattan raid) that didn’t require the AP/SP tax but gave lesser rewards?

Yup, it’s the exact same mistake they made with TSW. Cater everything to the hardcore grinding crowd and all the players who picked up this game because of its atmosphere and story can just go fuck themselves.

I was willing to give SWL a shot rather than immediately write it off like a lot of other people did, but everything they’ve done after launch shows that they just don’t care to have my business.

It’s a common misconception from mmo companies: Attempt replayability by frustration instead of fun.

OMG they’re seriously making you pay AP/SP? That is… not good.

At 7 AP + 15 SP for a repeat it‘s not that expensive – if you‘re a patron.
But yes, I guess it‘s more aimed at people like me who have accumulated 300+ AP/SP with absolutely nothing to spend them on.

“…in order to travel there, you’ll need to give up a portion of your own anima in the form of AP and SP….”
and
“…Should you fail to complete your run, you may re-attune yourself to the timeline (and pay the AP + SP) to try again….”

That sounds like a PERMANENT cost just to enter and have 17 mins in the place?

I understand that perma-subs and such have gobs and gobs of AP to burn, but that seems like a pretty crazy-expensive price to pay to play content that’s ostensibly harder, in hopes that you might get some gear that’s (likely: trivially) better than otherwise available?

in hopes that you might get some gear

For Dark Agartha, it’s not that gloomy. If you complete the instance successfully, you receive a new “currency” (fragments) that you can save and use yourself to make one of those new fancy elaborate glyph imbuers when you get 300 of it. At E10, you need about 17 days to gather 300.
Or, you can choose to sell this currency on the auction house or pass it to your alt/main/friend.

Therefore, your path to full four pip glyphs is just a function of time :)
