Path of Exile’s revamped Hideouts make housing persistent in Betrayal

Hands-down, the most exciting thing to me – and I suspect maybe MJ too – coming out of the Path of Exile Betrayal expansion reveal earlier this week was the revamp for the Hideout system, which is basically the game’s housing mode.

“Previously, you had a hideout per league and had to re-grind for favour/decorations in each league and customise a new hideout from scratch,” POE explains in its deep-dive dev blog on the topic. “This meant that people’s amazing creations were soon relegated to the Standard leagues and only a few players continued to make high-effort hideouts league after league.”

But that’s changing in Betrayal.

“With the new system, your hideouts, favour and decorations are shared across all leagues. Because these systems are entirely cosmetic and provide no gameplay advantage, there is no competitive advantage to starting a new league with an incredibly detailed-looking hideout. It will, however, save you a lot of time setting a new one up. You can have a different hideout set up for each tileset, and can swap between them at will.”

There’s new deco and tilesets on the way too, plus fewer limitations on what you can do with your space. Check it all out on the official site, and don’t miss our detailed interview on all the new Betrayal stuff from Tuesday!

I haven’t played path of exile in a while so I am confused about something. Do the masters still offer gameplay functions such as sockets and enchantment manipulation? Wouldn’t inheriting these capabilities into a new league be considered a gameplay advantage? Not sure if I am missing something here.

You’re missing the fact that the Forsaken Masters are going to disappear in the next patch, and be replaced by new NPCs, and that crafting is revamped and hideouts are no longer linked to masters.

Ah I see, thanks for the explanation.

Looking forward to this. I’ve always stayed away from putting any real effort into customizing my hideout, since I knew it wouldn’t last. Now that it persists between leagues, I’ll definitely start building out a “neat-o” hideout. ;)
