Perfect World Entertainment confirms Steam China deal

Pssssssst

Earlier this year, we reported on the surprise announcement that Perfect World Entertainment was in talks with Valve to bring Steam into China. It’s official now, though; Valve and PWE publicly signed a contract in the presence of government officials announcing that the distribution platform will arrive in China, although the platform’s titles will still have to go through the same approval process as other new titles.

Further information is still in the realm of rumor and speculation; it’s rumored, for example, that existing titles in player libraries will be spared any further inspection and there will be a region lock in place. The announcement is likely to be a boon for indie developers making native Chinese games, and this coincides with another agreement between PWE and Valve covering the Dota 2 championships in China. So it’s good news for gamers in the country, something that has been a long time coming considering this year’s overall trajectory.

I bet Steam will be better in China than here. The Chinese probably won’t allow all of the trash. SteamChina will be Steam circa 2011.

Technically, the people who decided to equate that loveable fluff with the dude in charge of china are the ones who decided it’s political, honestly. Not that I support the banning of it, just saying, credit/blame where it’s due

It’ll just be Chinese trash.

Also, if they could remove all the Chinese players stats from the hardware survey and from multiplayer games, that’d be great too.

Although we did get that great Dr Disrespect show so I dunno.

No Winnie the Pooh for anyone because it hurt Xi Jinping’s feelings.
What a great place to live.

You must not have seen the thousands of free to play MMOs that get pushed out in China every year. China’s made a whole industry out of self-playing garbage MMOs.

It’s so funny to say it. It’s like on 30 Rock, where NBC is a subsidiary of the Sheinhardt Wig Company.
