MMO Week in Review: The Fallout fallout and WildStar’s end

THIS IS NOT FINE! THERE WAS NO REASON TO LET IT GO THIS LONG OR GET THIS BAD!

MMORPG fans said goodbye to WildStar this week as NCsoft sunsetted it for good after a four-and-a-half-year run.

But out on the periphery of MMOs, online gamers raised a massive stink over Fallout 76’s bugs, sales, toxicity, refunds, and the CE edition bag bait-and-switch. Gamers are grumpy over Red Dead Online’s economy mess too. And then we saw a major round of delays: Project Nova, Path of Exile PS4, and Blades were all affected. Oh yeah, and the FTC agreed to investigate lockboxes.

Read on to catch up with the very best of this week’s MMO news and opinions today as every Sunday in Massively Overpowered’s Week in Review!

I’m not surprised Project Nova got wiped. I’m surprised they bothered starting it at all after Dust 514’s poor reception. Spreadsheets, harsh death penalties and twitch shooters just don’t mix, and there’s no way to merge game play between a 3D FPS engine and Eve Online’s ancient 2D point and click engine. It’s apples and oranges.

They really should just work on a fully-3D, cutting edge Eve Online 2 for PC and be done with it. Maybe they could convert Pearl Abyss’ BDO Remastered engine and use that.
