One Shots: Hobbit herbal hobbies

If Hobbits are seen as being generally lazy creatures that gobble up their weight in food every day, then how come they have such a productive society? Reader Ryuen has a suspicion that herbal supplements might be a key factor in motivating Hobbits to work hard.

“Here’s an old picture that I still quite like from Lord of the Rings Online,” he said. “My Hobbit peacefully farming some pipeweed in the Shire.”

Versus, you know, aggressively farming. Actually, I’d play that kind of game.

With a lot of eyes returning to LOTRO lately, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing a few more screencaps from this beloved MMO than usual. Katriana has one that features Elvish architecture, but don’t worry — after a strategic neutron bomb, all the Elves have been removed to make way for luxury condominiums.

“The view of Elven buildings across the river from Celondim always makes me want to take screenshots of it,” she said. “Never have managed to catch just the right angle/lighting/etc. to do it justice of how pretty it is in game.”

Here’s a blast from the past! Reader Hurbster is about to trigger all sorts of fond memories from Warhammer Online vets, so prepare yourself right now.

“Here’s an old favorite and one that took me ages to get right,” he said. That’s one tough windmill — it never quite burned down, did it? They made them better in the olden days.

And since we’re dining in hell, we might as well join Rafael, who got there ahead of us and made a reservation for a party of 8,000.

“Here is one place that I gravitate toward in Blade and Soul,” he said. “Necropolis. The city of dead. Which, ironically, makes for some lively atmospheric caps.”

They have killer chicken wings, or so I hear. I might be very hungry as I write this.

“I do believe Star Trek Online could benefit greatly from a graphics overhaul, when it comes to the actual avatars and ground missions,” said Rees Racer.” Still, the starship/space combat still looks pretty fabulous. At least the astrometrics portion was redone a couple of years ago, and the images can be quite lovely. I started a new captain this past week, and always enjoy taking a few shots of my Constitution-class cruiser in sector space.”

We’re getting into the last month of the year here, so let’s pull out all the stops and ask for your favorite screenshot(s) of 2018! Post ’em, let us know the backstory behind ’em, and we’ll see what we can do to feature ’em.

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

I’ve been playing alot of Guild Wars 2 this year, and I finally maxed out a crafting discipline. Always loved the ascended weapon’s appearance.

My favorite of my screenshots in 2018 would be too hard to choose, but these new ones symbolize where my gaming heart was located this year, I suppose.

I’ve been playing Star Trek Online since before its official release, and it’s brought me joy through thick and thin, and racked up a “Steam Shame Number” in number of hours played which might make some of you faint! :-)

While I have typically favored smaller, agile starships in the game, this year, I decided that it was time for my main character to trade-up for a more iconic Star Trek starship, as befits a max-level ship captain with literal years of adventure behind him.

So, here are a couple of pictures of the Yorktown-class Science Cruiser USS Hanno — named for Earth’s earliest-known expeditionary explorer, Hanno of Carthage.

More than the ship, though, it makes me smile to see my core bridge officer NPCs pictured here. Most of these are still the same common-quality bridge officers I customized back in the earliest days of the game. They do just fine, believe me!

So from me and my Star Trek crew, to you!

Left-To-Right: Chief Engineer Grauga; Ship’s Surgeon Dr. Greg Boyce; my captain; XO and Chief Science Officer T’Mir; and Senior Tactical Officer Mares Venlil Eshta.

Live Long and Prosper, Massively pals! :-)

Not strictly linked to this post but Nixxiom (a well known streamer) just put up a video praising the game. It’s nice to see it getting more attention, especially not people just complaining.

I’ve been playing a lot of No Man’s Sky, which is always good for some gorgeous screenshots. I’m really fond of creature shots. I love discovering new creatures like I’m on a safari.

Beautiful pics, thank you! I find No Man’s Sky one of those games so easily to lose time in while playing.

You sit down to play, for “just an hour”, and suddenly, it’s four hours later, and you still have more you want to see and to do. :-)

“…favorite screenshot(s) of 2018!”

There were many, over the course of the year. Some were (honestly) from single-player RPG’s. But given proper graphics power, some MMO’s can look quite lovely, indeed.

Perhaps there is nothing terribly remarkable about this shot from ESO. Maybe I’m too fond of a bit of lens-flare. I suppose I just appreciated the colour and the idea of my Bosmer Nightblade crouching, contemplating a stealth/stun/poison with that magnificent bow…and follow-up with twin daggers.

Heh. Good one, as ever, brother Schlag!

And y’know, if I had a dollar for every time some guy said (back when I was a teenager) “Y’know … it’s, like … pipe WEED, man!!!” as if this was the greatest literary revelation since the discovery of the Rosetta Stone, well, we’d probably be having this conversation on my private beach in the Caribbean, or something. :-)
Weed may make people introspective, but alas, it doesn’t necessarily make them insightful. Hee hee hee.

Be well, my friend,

This reminds I need to improve farming past Westfold in Lotro. I always do that in the Shire. Always. It gives me a sense of peace and serenity.

It’s an activity that just makes sense there, I did all my farming there as well.
Mainly pipeweed of course as that hobbit was my dealer for my other characters. Any leftovers were sold on the open market by my shady Dwarf.

Nice! My Warden gets a shout out from One Shots! Her 15 minutes of fame are here!

A fave of the year request? I can’t. I mean, I have way too many caps at the moment, just of this year, to cull through them all.

So, I pick the following as best in show, for brevity’s sake, in Blade and Soul, 2018.

blah blazh

I watched a Let’s Play of Wildstar just today on youtube. I’m not even sure why I didn’t give it much of a chance. The combat was fun, the game was polished (compared to a lot of mmos anyway), it had a ton of character, it had a lot of things to do. I just don’t remember why I only played for a month.
