Black Desert outlines plans for the Archer, battle royale mode, and the O’dyllita expansion

As promised Pearl Abyss splashed out for its Festa event in South Korea this weekend, with big announcements for local and global fans of Black Desert. Let’s get the weird news out of the way first: BDO’s getting a 50-man battle royale mode this winter (it’ll roll out to us at some point after the Korean launch). “In this mode, every player starts as a Black Spirit and needs to find a fallen adventurer and possess it,” PA and Kakao say. “By destroying nearby supply crates and defeating mobs players can accumulate equipment and skills. When everyone is killed except for one survivor, the game ends with a victory message.”

Now to the predictable news, since Kakao had already teased it: The Archer is launching December 12th. That’s in all regions, mind you. Expect to be able to roll the new toon with this week’s patch. That patch will also deliver an experience boost event, a free butler, a new starting cutscene, and storyline tweaks.

Finally, the juicy stuff: Pearl Abyss is working on a new expansion in the O’dyllita maps, as well as a new territory war PvP mode, a do-over for renown, and tweaks for caphras enhancements. “[O’dyllita] features many new fantastic locales such as The Valley of Olun, the Thorn Tree Forest and the Castle of Thorns. These lands are inhabited by the Turo, large powerful beasts that move in groups of two or three. Another race of mobs is the Ahib, dark magic wielding bear-like creatures that are a force to be reckoned with.” No ETA on this one.
