Funcom’s tactical adventure game Mutant Year Zero has officially launched

One of the many games under Funcom’s ever-widening umbrella is Mutant Year Zero, and in fact it’s officially launched as of today as planned. Developer The Bearded Ladies has pushed it live on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 simultaneously with a base price of $34.99, and though it’s not an MMO, it’s had our attention over the last year as Funcom returns to its place of power.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden combines XCOM-like tactical, turn-based combat with real-time stealth and exploration of a post-human Earth. It is developed by The Bearded Ladies, a team made up of former HITMAN and PAYDAY developers among others. The game is part of a broader Mutant IP which includes the ’80s pen and paper RPG Mutant that has a loyal following across the world and is frequently seeing new releases.”

MOP’s Andrew played the game at GDC and again at E3, finding the combat tactical and tough – so tough almost no one could beat the demo. Check out the new cinematic trailer below!

Is this like a Civilization Game?

Looks fun. I’ll have to wait for a sale though.

Looks fun, slow and humorous, right up my alley. Just what I need on occasion to relax.

PSA: If you have Xbox Gamepass, the game launches straight into it.

This looks great! I’m not a strategy player, but I’ve had it on my Steam wish list since Funcom first announced it. It just looks too entertaining to pass up. Hopefully it will be a good introduction to that genre. I may wait for the Steam winter sale and see if there’s any discount on it, as that will be coming up shortly anyway.

I’m so glad to see Funcom financially stable again, though; they’ve worked really hard for that.

It has Denuvo so the requirements should be pretty high to support that malware/spyware it comes with.

Severely tempted but pre-made characters put me off. I like to build my own teams.

I had missed the coverage until this, and that was my react as well. After seeing the trailer, I wanted my own team of Howard, Porky, and some rando third, not a pre-built team with their own lore

Who knows, maybe that’ll be a thing if they do a sequel.

I can’t get past the goofy characters but the ambiance is awesome, it’s quite the high production value considering the price tag and the fact it seems (so far) fully voiced and with a decently paced story

Hopefully they manage to diversify their portfolio a little and we all benefit from it, they have many other titles scheduled that I’d really love to see published…..

I went against my better judgement and purchased a Funcom published game. Have to keep in mind it is “Developer The Bearded Ladies” and 14+ hours in I’m pleased.

Does anyone know if this is “fun with friends”?

I’ve seen no multiplayer function in game so far, if that’s what you are asking.
