BioWare touts Anthem’s story, drops Game Awards trailer

During last night’s Game Awards, while much of the news revolved around Red Dead Redemption 2 maybe winning a bit too much and WildCard’s next big thing, EA did manage to drop a new trailer for Anthem.

According to Kotaku, BioWare is all in on story for this new franchise, which is definitely something fans have been concerned about given earlier previews and press statements. It does still sound as if the driving narrative will be sectioned off from the repeatdable content, but don’t expect many non-combat options or branching narrative a la Mass Effect; mostly the you-to-NPC dialogue will “affect how these NPCs treat you.”

Worth noting is that there’s a closed alpha phase running this weekend if you were lucky enough to have signed up by Monday and then got an invite. The game is still expected to launch in February.

the game looking great (not include the previes devs stream in the hub with low graphic)

its look like mix of warframe, destiny, mass effect and TD so its a good thing.

but the real question is what left to do after finishing the story and thats why i would wait to see some videos after release and not jumping on the start.

It’s like Warframe, Destiny and Mass Effect had an orgy and this is the abomination that was issued from it.

So the last city is defended by armour superheros to protect the ambigously half civilised half tribal people from ayy’s and a godlike magical maguffin that granted them all power?

Boy they really gotta madlib this up to get by Bungies lawyers huh? :p

Release Feb 2019 and they are now in ALPHA? Lol.

They don’t want to call it a beta because betas have become synonymous with early access / time limited demos, and they are actually looking for player feed before they turn the key and lock it down for launch.

Well, any way you look at it, with optimism or pessimism, this is Bioware’s last gasp. I hope they pull through because EA’s boneyard is littered with that which was once great.

They literally just put out an announcement trailer for Dragon Age 4 & continue to update SWTOR … Pretty sure Bioware is fine.

Hmm. I’m not so sure. EA could just as easily shut down Bioware move DA4 including key devs to another team, and throw SWTOR in their boneyard. They have done it before and will do so again.

Bioware needs a win to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Had MEA preformed decently, this wouldn’t be an issue. But look at EA’s recent disasters including Battlefield V and their plummeting stock price.

Meanwhile, SWTOR is on a skeleton crew and bleeding subs.

Casey Hudson will either be the savior or The Last of The Mohicans.

EA is not a forgiving company.

The graphics, if that’s actual gameplay and not a CGI trailer, are impressive. Mostly I like the world-building that I can see going on in what was shown. It looked like a world that a lot of attention to detail was paid to. Forced PvP or not, I might be drawn into the game. Maybe… ugh, I hate forced PvP.

It is completely PVE (unless they add some kind of Arena mode later on).

Left feeling rather flat after all the trailers and previews. Nothing is sticking in my head with this title so far. Not suggesting it will be bad or un-fun, but…I dunno. It’s weird. Right now all I’m able to manage after many, many previews is a shrug.

There is nothing that grabs me in that video, It just seems like every other FPS I’ve seen before. Even the story seems bland and unoriginal.

Darth Anthem gonna end all the needless suffering. For the younglings.

That’s a good thing right?

Kinda agree…it didn’t seem like much of a story.

I’m ready for a good sci-fi, mad max, themed world with a great story so fingers crossed. I had much more confidence in that all happening when Drew Karpyshyn was working on Anthem (Mass Effect 1 and 2 is Drew Karpyshyn) so my only hope now is that he left a large infrastructure or influenced it enough to be at least close to M1/2.

Yeah, Karpyshyn’s departure was not a good sign but then again he might just have contributed as much as he could have before departing. You never know — sometimes the story for these things is plotted years in advance.

I so hope this is the case.

I read all his Mass Effect novels and they were pretty good reads, which had minor ties to the games until Mass Effect 3. That’s when those who read the novels got super fan service, which was totally cool, so cool, but Drew wasn’t working on 3. Its always left me wondering if that’s why 3 sucked, and all the fan service was EA desperately trying to scrounge up content from his past work.

I mean (to me) the indoctrination theory totally fits, even hints in the novels were there, there was so much evidence, i mean that would have been (or was for a bit for me) a mind = blown moment, thank you Drew! but omg in its infinite wisdom EA literally comes out and stomps on it, wtf, so it was a shitty ending after all thanks EA great job. Just when you were literally saved by this theory, you go unsave yourselves WOW!

In and installed, but with heavy NDA *shrug* seems like it is a legit game test instead of the typical “beta that is really just a demo” thing that EA usually does.

Which is kinda exciting since it has been a good long while since I have seen a game test that wasn’t selling beta keys & actually gave a shit what the players thought.

At times i feel like i’m watching a Warframe video, then a mass effect video, a cyberpunk 2077 video, even a fallout video.

I guess when they say it’s unlike anything i’ve ever played before they are right, i’ve never played these games all at once before.

Outside that, hmmm, not preordering but… dunno might be pretty good, from what i can tell, i’m liking the world so far.
