Leaderboard: What was the best mobile MMO of 2018?

While 2017 was a big year for mobile, 2018 was even bigger, as more and more MMORPG companies, from CCP Games and NCsoft to Blizzard and Daybreak, pivot to mobile.

Of course, veteran MMORPG games can be pretty grumpy over mobile games, especially the perception that in the zero sum game of development, PC MMOs are losing out.

For today’s Leaderboard, let’s put it to a vote: What was the best mobile MMO of 2018?

A good mobile MMORPG is a shut down mobile MMORPG.

Nexon’s Darkness Rises. Not a true MMO, more like a Action RPG coop game, though with very good coop fights and even 4-player-boss fights, real time duel pvp and Team pvp. It’s very polished, very good. One of the more addictive mobile games.

Nothing, they all suck and are the scourge of PC gaming.

I actively played online mobile games for years, but even I would never play a mobile MMO. It’s probably the very last genre that I’d want to play on my phone or tablet. So my vote goes to “nothing”.

I have a 2 mobile phones and a 2 tablets – total # of games across all of them < 1

I keep looking and loading up the occasional one, but it is always disappointing. So ya…Nothing.

Hoping Blades does something good.

what was the name of that game with dinosaurs? i played abit and it wasnt that bad

ps/ oh ya, Durango.
But honestly, playing Discworld MUD on tablet is much better then any of MMOs listed. Pretty amazing game.

Tough decisions. Villagers and Heroes is light hearted but mechanically deep enough to be called a legit MMORPG. Housing, farming, zones, dungeons, city and community hubs, crafting, stats. If they ever change the theme to a more serious tone and upgrade the graphics, I’ll play dedicated.

Just as on PC, Black Desert is the most stunning looking game on mobile IMO but lacks the polish the PC version has.

Runscape, is well.. Runescape. Arguably the best RPG devised..in 2001. Pioneering mechanics, ugly as sin and a community frankly unmatched in shrewd and wittiness.

Lineage 2 is akin to the Archeage of mobile games. Had great ideas only to be stifled by its developer. It can die in a dumpster fire.

MMO games on mobile are like dancing dogs. They don’t do it very well, but you are surprised that they do it at all.

My vote: Nothing.

Pokemon Go is the only game I play in any sort of mobile fashion. But it is the one game my wife and I play together, aside from Gin Rummy with an actual physical deck of cards.

I am shocked… no Dragalia Lost? :) I realize it is barely an MMO but it is as MMO as Pokemon Go is.
