Isn’t it awesome that you can go to a website, pay some money (or Bitcoin, of course this would take Bitcoin), and then have a DDoS attack directed against whoever you choose? Wait, no, awesome isn’t the word for that. Awful. That’s the word I was thinking of. But it will at least be harder after the FBI has seized and taken down 15 DDoS-for-hire sites as part of a criminal investigation.
Criminal complaints have also been filed against three alleged criminals associated with two of these such sites. There’s an obvious motivation to the timing, as the FBI notes that the holiday week is often an active time for those seeking to prevent other people from using online games and services. It’s unlikely to prevent the dedicated trolls and jerk-butts (note: we want to use stronger words here but try to stay family-friendly) but it should at least cut down on some of the malicious actions flying across our favorite series of tubes.
Good to see them shutting down 3 websites! Now to find the other billion out there!
Perhaps we can finally say goodbye to terms like “script kiddies” which only serve to minimize the damage these people are doing.
Punch those fucks!
I did not know that there were “for hire” websites for this. But good to see that they are being shut down. I’m sure it wasn’t just because of gaming, but happy to have the benefit. : )
E-thugs get thugged! o.O
I wonder how many stories like this I will need to read before I have the thought.
“The internet is safe and good”
All of the stories
Never. Never ever. It will never be safe. It will never be entirely good. We just have to support having people fight for the good side and taking these things down.
You would think that there was enough pain and unpleasantness in the world for any person with a brain. But apparently not, apparently some people have brains that look like piles of maggot-infested manure.
See, I did that and didn’t use a single bad word.
The Doctor
from Enemy of the World
Unfortunately, all you have to do is visit some of the gaming communities around and this fact becomes painfully obvious.
It’s down to too many people being jaded, not brought up with any respect, and thinking that the world owes them and not being able to find enjoyment in the smaller things that they do. I’ve seen so much toxicity spring up in the last few years to anything that people find.
…and nothing of value was lost.
