Thanks to MOP reader Agemyth’s suggestion back in 2016, we’ve been debating the best new zone added to an MMO every year.
Obviously, your answer to this one is going to depend on the games you actually play. Not all MMOs actually have zones to begin with, either! Traditionally, I go for Guild Wars 2 zones; they always wow me. This year, though, I would personally give the nod to Elder Scrolls Online’s Murkmire, the zone specifically. It’s not every day that an MMO literally revolves a major update around a largely incomprehensible plotline involving lizardmen and mysterious tree spirits. The Elder Scrolls franchise has always backed away from it, and yet there’s ZeniMax, daring to make it happen. Good on ya.
What would you argue was the best new zone or area added to an MMORPG in 2018?

Mirkwood, Dale and Lake-town in LOTRO.
I like Stormsong Valley in WoW a lot. Such a nice looking zone. I would move there in a heartbeat.
Summerset, very pretty, good story and we got the Psijic Order skill tree as well.
Zone? Pfft. How about whole planet? My vote goes for Hurston (Star Citizen)
After 4 very long years and therefore an MMO-eternity (for many players even new), the reintroduction of GW2’s Labyrithine Cliffs this year, hands down!
It’s still my favorite map of all time anyway! ;P
Nazmir (WoW). A zone I actually felt like traversing through a Mesozoic jungle. That’s saying something in a game that was once known for it’s brute polygon renderings. o.O
Summerset in ESO. It was a very large zone with lots of new and interesting things to explore.
For a single zone, Summerset in ESO. Have to mention the WOW Zones though. They were great.
ESO’s Summerset Isle, it was huge and beautiful. So refreshing to find a zone with things to do in it that is not some dark, brooding and thoroughly depressing hole in the ground :)
GW2’s Jahai Bluffs and ESO’s Summerset Isle.
