Black Desert Online introduces time-limited Black Spirit chat emoji, and yes, they’re cute

11

So how do you feel about having new chat emoji available in Black Desert Online? Does the fact that they’re time-limited affect those feelings? Does the cost of one loyalty affect those already altered feelings? How about the fact that they are are also perhaps unfairly cute? Please, leave your corresponding essay in the comments, possibly with a few emoji of your own. Or just think about it in your mind.

Yes, these chat emoji can be purchased in-game now for the aforementioned price of one loyalty, and they’ll be available until January 9th. Once you use the item purchased, you’ll have access to the emoji for 30 days, with an option in your game settings to enable or disable emoji animations in chat. If you’re still not sure how to feel about this confluence of elements, we would hasten to remind you that they are really cute. Or you can check out the official notes on the latest patch, which are mostly bug fixes; those are less cute but have a bigger impact on play.

I bought the emoji’s with my 1 loyalty, but haven’t used them. They’re cute to see pop up in chat, though. Like a little balloon pop, almost larger than chat, then normal-sized.

I had a nice time levelling a character up to 56, but that stopped when the XP for a monster kill went down to like .025% per. Not that it had been particularly generous beforehand, but that brick wall really put an end to any sort of enjoyment as far as grinding was concerned.

Life skills are really quite interesting and would be a great thing if they didn’t involve AFKing and leaving your computer on 24/7 to advance your skills. The thought of all that electricity being wasted just to AFK fish put a serious dent in my enjoyment of that part of the game.

Oh well, no hard feelings- it’s a beautiful game that just doesn’t click with me.

I love these things. Just wish they worked cross channel in guild chat.

Kind of lame it’s only for 30 days though.

Everything in the game is time limited, to a ridiculous degree. Time-limited “extra 16 spaces of inventory” or 7-day limited dyes? Really?
Look, I get that games need to make money – no problem. But BDO is pretty famously p2w at any level of PVP. I’m enjoying it basically as a single-player game though, lots to do, and pretty as hell.

The shame was that for majority of the game’s lifespan on NA/EU the game wasn’t really P2W. Anyone who was up top in terms of competitiveness were all there because they grinded the hell out of the game.

However the last 6-9 months have been a huge downturn for the game. First the Sea Monster Hunting buffs basically enabled RMT in the game via guild payouts. What was once limited to extremely few guilds there are numerous sites out there offering billions for hundreds of dollars. No one is out on the seas to report people so hackers and bots can just rake in billions in guild funds with impunity for sale. Then, of course, Pearl Abyss wanted in on that payment action and introduced costume melting while simultaneously increasing costume prices effectively enabling full on p2w in game.

Been very disappointing over all. Kakao held out for a super long time against PA but as Q2 profits were down for NA/EU and Q3 profits were even lower it’s unsurprising PA decided to force going this route. Personally I’ve responded in kind by effectively reducing the money I spend on the game to nothing where as once I might have spent a hundred or two on the game (my gaming budget).

Guess I’m the outlier here but BDO had a great year by adding multiple ways to make the money to finally score that PEN and stuff. And yeah, the costume melting does have a p2w aspect, but its so expensive it really is just for the whales, which in my opinion is OK since not everyone is a whale anyway. Chances for a PENs are just soooooo low, we’re looking at close to $300+ investments and there wont be many people willing to attempt it any way, espcially there are methods to acheive PEN with other methods.

Also, theyre about to add a marketplace system simliar to Gw2’s black lion market to help make the game more of a middle man.

You can see people go for PEN all the time via enhancements. When Manos Hoe came out for example there were screenshots of people slamming PEN on that thing 10-20 times. You see this on a semi regular basis. So it isn’t a 100% thing you see in 100% of the people it’s also something you definitely still see on a regular basis however. Add onto buying Sea Monster Hunting payouts which then players use to buy Cron Stones to slam for PEN and it’s effectively the same thing.

The Marketplace system you think you’re getting, you’re not. As MENA has shown there’s still numerous capped out items in place in that other system. So for example Milk is still 2.3k and clamped to 2.3k or items like blackstones etc are the same price. Only select items like memory fragments, accessories and boss equipment was allowed to go up in price. And even then items like memory fragments clamped to 3x their current value and stopped going up. It’s not a “free” market like you’d think.

I won’t play a game where you “rent” things.
