Dungeons and Dragons Online’s reincarnation bug is wiping out player inventories – again

Something is rotten in the realm of Eberron, according to a flurry of reports on Dungeons and Dragons Online’s official forums from players who say that items from their True Reincarnation item caches have turned up missing.

For the uninitiated, True Reincarnation is an endgame progression mechanic in which players can reincarnate their characters, returning them to first level in exchange for a variety of bonuses granted to their next incarnations. In doing so, all of the reincarnated character’s inventory and bank items are transferred into a reincarnation cache where they are safely stored so they can be retrieved at a later time.

Or at least, that’s how it’s supposed to work, but obviously something’s gone amiss, and players are understandably fairly irate over the loss of their precious items, and they’re even more irate by Standing Stone Games’s failure to acknowledge the issue and respond to their concerns over the holiday.

To make matters even hairier, this issue is an unwelcome echo of a major bug that plagued the game back in 2017, when players reported almost identical issues with the game’s reincarnation system and had similar difficulties receiving support from SSG. Looks like it’s true what they say about learning from history or being doomed to repeat it. For the sake of the affected players, though, we hope the devs have learned at least a little something from the past and will make an effort to rectify the situation as soon as possible.
