Ship of Heroes looks ahead to improved character editor and leveling tests in 2019

It’s only natural to want to cheer on a group of superheroes, especially if they’re making an MMORPG to fill the gap of one that is sorely missed. The Ship of Heroes team has been working hard to get us this MMO, and while it’s still going to be some time before it arrives, progress is being made at a quick pace.

The team sent out a letter in which it recapped its many accomplishments from 2018. These accomplishments include running tests with up to 200 players, the creation of several powersets, a day/night cycle for the city, better special effects, an expansion of the dev team, and the introduction of a new and improved combat system.

There’s a lot coming in 2019 as Ship of Heroes takes form. Work is being performed on five more powersets (including the game’s first controller set), an upgraded engine, an improved character creator, and a raid test. Then later in the year, the team is going to pull together a lot of pieces for a big test.

“Later in the year, we’d like to test the leveling system, as well as the in-game effects of augmentations, infusions, and buffing on real team and solo gameplay,” Heroic Games said. “This kind of multiplayer balancing work is key to making the game fun in preparation for the eventual beta launch.”

I get CoH pangs when I see this stuff. I wish NCSoft would just sell the bloody thing to some team that would do it justice but at least we have these hopefully worthy successors to watch.

At this point, I’m not. They can keep the IP and choke on it.

I want Titan and Ship and Valiance all to have a chance at success. They have worked hard for it. NCsoft releasing the COH IP now would likely endanger that success.

There are always more superhero stories so I’m good with another company making up there own damn stories, their own big superheroes, and their own plots.

Also, FUNCSOFT. (spacing is left to the reader)

I hear you. I’m very nostalgic for CoH and CoV though. I want King’s Row, and Galaxy City, and Steel Canyon and all my old haunts back more than the rest of the IP. Every time I see these city shots I recall my days Super Jumping (mostly), flying, teleporting, and superspeeding my way across all those old zones.

Plus even with 70+ characters, my main was an Inv/SS Tanker and man do I miss the sound fx of those attacks! Might in CO is garbage by comparison, among other issues that one has.

And agreed on the last comment, proper spacing indeed!

the problem is these other games look like they’re all shaping up to simply be ‘not city of heroes.’

I’m not sure if releasing pictures of their current state of development is doing them any favors. I can only speak to it subjectively- when I see these images I don’t get excited, I start looking elsewhere for my CoH fix.

The fact that they can (and have here on MOP) shown an actual working game versus a few developer-made trailers and tech demos is a heck of a lot more confidence building than other games.
I haven’t invested any of the spiritual successors, but having followed them for quite a while, this is the one I have the most confidence in.

Damn, I didn’t realize such a thing existed. I didn’t think anyone had managed to get the code.
