RIFT solicits player feedback for a daily calendar reward revamp

Look flashy.

Does the daily reward calendar in RIFT feel a bit outdated to you? Obvious date-related puns aside, the developers still on the team feel as if it’s a feature that could do with a new coat of paint, and thus the team is asking for player feedback about what can be done to make this feature more engaging for the community. You can go ahead and jump into the thread yourself if you’ve got some suggestions, even.

Of course, the post soliciting feedback makes it very clear from the start that not all items are eligible to be daily rewards, and there’s no promise that every suggestion will be taken and used. But there are already a number of people proposing reasonable (and commensurate) changes to the rewards, as well as others chiming in with agreement or further elaboration. Check out the full thread and offer your own suggestions, or even just voice your support for existing ones.

It feels like a vast empty field of forgotten dreams

The gaming community I am part of formed in Rift about 8 years ago and until the Gamigo takeover of Trion still continued to be relatively active in the game . Since then those playing on a regular basis have dropped into single digits . The Guild Master has gone awol and the officers seem to be trying to keep things going but recruitment of new players is pretty much impossible . The lack of new content and the seeming lack of much chance of any new content soon ( or ever ) has even these Rift diehards starting to talk about a playing a new mmo together . While I imagine this consultation will be welcomed by whatever community remains , the rot really has set in .

It could be a good sign. An olive branch, so to speak?

That’s nice, but this is also such a minor issue given the state of Rift right now. I get why they’re doing this, it’s a low-effort ask in terms of delivering players some changes without needing to do much work (likely pretty simple to replace items granted in the calendar) and is a “good” addition in that it’s improving what players get for free.

Played over the holidays and was disappointed with the fact that I couldn’t get a single dungeon pop on my cleric (dps/support/healer, not tank) even for any level 65 or lower content despite a few sessions that were upwards of an hour each. Really seems like the population has dipped in a major way and whatever remaining folks are left are either doing max level dungeons or hanging out leveling via IA’s or something.

Oh well, hopefully it’s just a first baby step on the way to trying to get the game back into shape. Even if I’m still salty about Trion’s handling of the game and am in no way a fan of gamigo, I still want the game to find a way to be awesome again and succeed. And if they manage it I’ll be ready to jump back in.

Did Trion ever get to finish the story at least or is there basically a mid expansion cliff hanger? If they ended their story I might start leveling a tank from scratch just say I experienced the lore while I had the chance, things did start getting interesting during the Storm Legion experiencing two contents decimated by dragon forces; it sounds like they went an interesting direction after killing off Regulos.

For the current expansion? I never got far (tried it when it went free and wasn’t a fan of the early leveling content) but given what I know I don’t think so. The live game hasn’t seen a proper content update for over a year, I think we’re at a year and a half without any PvE updates really (I think they had a warzone they put in). As soon as Prime launched it seemed that their entire team was pulled off live and put to work on Prime.

I won’t bother then, learned that lesson binge watching series on Netflix (always make sure it wasn’t cancelled).

I know how you feel there , the Netflix Marvel series don’t look like they are going to reach a satisfactory conclusion at least on that streaming service ( that sounds more like it is down to Disney wanting the properties back though so hopefully they will continue those shows in some form or other ).

Don’t think that’s actually the case, Disney announced a while back that the Marvel Netflix shows and any spinoffs would remain with Netflix. Saw an interview, will see if i can find it later, where a Disney exec said they were ok with that because of the more adult nature of the Netflix shows not being in line with Disney being more PG-family oriented. If they end up at Disney, i would be surprised if they don’t become a more sanitized version.

Trion didn’t really have the resources/inclination to improve Rift before their remaining team got savaged by the Gamigo layoffs. I really think this is about the best they can manage these days. (and it isn’t enough)

IA’s are a real problem because they’re just too good. Tons of XP, easy to do, instant pop, and they repeat sending the group from one IA to another nonstop until you decide to leave. That’s where the majority of the leveling population is. It’s something they need to fix so that dungeons and regular questing are incentivized a bit more.

That’s a part of it, and it’s been frustrating for a long time that they never bothered to re-tune XP gains to make dungeons more attractive while leveling.

But even the IA’s I was hanging out in while waiting on my dungeon queue were pretty sparsely populated. Had to leave and rejoin on multiple occasions because my raid would dwindle down <5 people and they got painfully unfun.

I get that old NT experts and older dungeons may not be terribly popular (in part because the rewards for doing them at cap aren't great), but I can't help but feel that the population is down to the point where IA's aren't even the issue anymore – there simply aren't enough people playing to really populate the majority of the content anymore : /

I heard rumors towards the latter half of 2018 that on the EU live servers that the population was in the hundreds and that was prior to the Gamigo takeover , God knows what it is like now .

I know my friends tell me that if you want to do pvp it’s about a half an hour wait even at peak times ( in the EU ) .

Well at the end of this post they said they were working on more level 70 expert content.

I think that is a hopeful statement of intent by the remaining skeleton crew development staff but without the backing of Gamigo to start hiring more people to help with the development of new content it is going to be an uphill struggle .

My Rift Guildmates are holding out hope they might complete the raid that was already in development which I think was near completion anyway but other than that I would be very ( and pleasantly ) surprised if there were any major content updates ever again .

I guess it is not impossible to turn things around but they need to do it fast to give people hope there is some future for the game and from what I have read about how Gamigo do business it seems unlikely .

Like Wildstar I think Rift is a decent game but once word gets around that it’s in maintenance mode people are less likely to try it and it’s decline becomes a self fulfilling prophecy .

Yea hopefully they can do something. It’s honestly a good game at all levels, all it needs is some tweaks in some areas, more players, and more content.
