On this week’s show, Bree and Justin investigate the disturbing news of a schism between Unity and SpatialOS, enjoy a ripe bounty of FFXIV and Guild Wars 2 patches, and thrill at Elite: Dangerous’ most amazing player story yet.

It’s the Massively OP Podcast, an action-packed hour of news, tales, opinions, and gamer emails! And remember, if you’d like to send in your own letter to the show, use the “Tips” button in the top-right corner of the site to do so.

I missed the missing podcast, but I figured out what was going on. Thanks, Twitter.

I really suffered terribly at work. I had to listen to OTHER podcasts.

Lol Bree, turning SWG into “also spreadsheets in space.” It’s a genre now.

The opening music reminded me of the show “Dexter”. LOL.

I noticed there was no podcast last week, but I figured it was a holidays thing.

As for the issue of being used to controllers, I think it’s just practice. So like I grew up in the PS2/GC/Xbox era, along with my primary gaming as an early teen being on the Xbox 360 (Halo 3 <3). So using the dual-stick controls to move around a 3D space has just always been second-nature to me.
But I can totally see how if Keyboard/Mouse has been the main (if not really only) method of control used, how it would be rather strange to try and learn it. It really is down to muscle-memory I think.

Yep, two weeks without a podcast for me. I didn’t listen to the previous, I tend to have issues listening to the podcast if they have more then two voices on. I also tend to skip it if Eliot is on as his voice is just so much louder and his repeated “you knows” just drive me bonkers. lol.

I’m used to three voices on a podcast due to Podtoid and the follow-up Dismal Jesters and now Podquisition, although I think that’s more due to the specific and very deliberate choices of dynamics on the shows (two main voices on a particular topic, with the third chipping in, then rotation of roles depending on the topic).
Then again I listen to Podcast Unlocked and that show has four hosts, every episode XD. So I guess I’m just used to it, for as long as everyone doesn’t try to speak at once it’s fine.

Yeah I wish I could listen to more then two at a time but I find I just get frustrated due to hearing damage issues from the years in the military. I love the interaction between just two people talking and Bree and Justin in particular are really two of my favorite voices to listen to.

I need different styles for different things. I do better with most MMOs on keyboard and mouse, mostly because it makes it much easier to target stuff (switching between a particular party member to heal and back to an enemy in FFXIV on controller with D-pad is painful, when I can just use the F keys and tab on keyboard). FPS are obviously better on KB+M. But I find it nearly impossible to play 2D platformers and whatnot with a keyboard. Choosing the correct tool for the job is half the battle.

Thanks for another enjoyable podcast. Yes, you were missed, but I chalked it up to you needing some time off to relax on the yacht. :)

Oh and I think snarky comments about spreadsheets and MMO’s will be a bit less justified in the future, hmmm?

Okay I admit I feel kind of bad now for not wondering where the Podcast was last week :( I listen to every one so its not like I wasn’t interested I just sort of figured you guys probably had a scheduling issue or were too busy with other things lol.

I’ll be sure to send up a flare next time, promise lol

It bothers me, because I respect Bree and Justin and value their insight, but I have so much difficulty understanding that sick feeling at the prospect of Activision or EA imploding. It’s true that people may lose their jobs or suffer hardship, but I can’t get past my fundamental belief that these companies have done nothing but disservice to our genre.

I’ve been hoping these megacorps would implode for a decade or more now. How can we give benefit of doubt to those who have shown so little faith in using the MMO as anything but a carnival busk? Do we NEED another Destiny or Fallout 76 or anemic WoW expansion?

I don’t see how we can progress until we bring the idiot suits to heel. Their entire model is flawed and predatory and that should be obvious to anyone who loved UO or SWG.

I checked your tweets and saw Syp was out of town. Was just glad that there were no emergencies of any kind.
