Ashes of Creation yoinks another ex-Daybreaker, this one a community manager

Ashes of Creation’s Intrepid Studios has been grabbing up Daybreak devs left and right, and now it’s hired a new one: Sarah “Lt. Toast” Flanagan. Flanagan was a community manager on not just H1Z1 but PlanetSide Arena, which hasn’t even launched.

According to her post on Reddit, Flanagan will be handling more of the ground operations of the wild and woolly Ashes community (compared to the duties of the community marketing lead introduced earlier this month). In other words, you can complain directly to her about the broken forums. Yay!

Ashes has a long roster of former SOE/Daybreak vets thanks to apparently strong hiring over the last couple of years, most recently Just Survive’s technical director.

Okay…um…glad to hear she has a job. Can I get information about the game now? I’d like to know more about the product.

Yep, that’s what community managers are for. To keep players on top of things about the game.

Does Ashes hire women devs at all? Are there any on their team yet? Such a large team, over 100? And the women they hire are always “community managers” or something to do with community relations. Prove me wrong someone!

According to their website they have 4 ladies out of 39 total staff. This would make a nice even 5 of 40 or 8% after this hire I believe. Not great but not crazy low either for the industry. I think.

Hmm

I would say they need to focus less on hiring people to act as a buffer between them and the people who paid for a SPECIFIC kind of game that they need and more, you know actually MAKING the game people paid for that they should be focusing on.

Priorities people!!!

I hope they will be good as part of Interpid team.

Lol. Better load up on the community team now. Once they announce the cancelation of the MMO, they are gonna need all the community folks they can get.

Why say anything though right?

“yeah sure we are still making it”
*turns back to skype interview. faces core team. rolls eyes, silent mouths “blahblahblah but we gave you money”*
*slowly turns swivel chair back to monitor. snikering heard in background*
“it is important to us that the MMO gets made. It will not be pay to win.”
“wait…wha? This is Bill? From sales? You motherfucker! I thought we were doing an interview with Massively! HHAHAHAHAHHA! You got me!”
“are we still making an MMO for real?”

*room erupts into laughter*

Considering what Daybreak has released over the last several years, I am very disappointed by Intrepid’s recruiting. While I hope I’m wrong, my expectations are lower and lower.

That said, I’m hoping Ashes gets decent community management since they haven’t been doing an adequate job of getting test info out to non-Discord testers. Hopefully between Flanagan and Krohn, they can whip that part into shape. And maybe they can get a couple of web devs as well since their forums have taken a dive do to the “fun” in December. Actually, I can’t even access the site at all at the time of my posting.

Daybreak is one of the early innovators in stringing people along while still achieving sales. Top tier.

You need good CMs when you are turning your game from an open world sandbox into a Battle Royale

lol – the best CMs are the ones used to abuse. Numb to it. That is their only job. Filtering out the populace from the suits and coders and keeping sales up. Daybreak is in a high class of abuse receiving (every bit deserved).

Ashes is telling you by this hire – you are going to want to abuse us in the future. Not an opinion, that is a fact.
