Star Trek Online update brings Mirror Universe Tilly, free tardigrade pets, and better skin

You can’t keep a bad captain down — or an available voice actress who is bearing the sole burden of representing her entire TV show in an MMO.

Star Trek Online is releasing its Mirror of Discovery update today, further exploring the Discovery story arc that it began last fall. Mary Wiseman is once again reprising her role as Tilly in the game, although this time it will be as the Mirror Universe version.

“As leader of the I.S.S. Discovery, Killy’s ruthless reputation was often mentioned in the series, though her character was never shown on-screen,” Cryptic said in a press release. “Players unravel the mystery of what really happened to her and the crew of the I.S.S. Discovery, after it was summoned to the Prime Universe and never seen again.”

The patch includes two new featured episodes, an upgrade to the personal endeavor system, improved hair and skin textures, and anniversary challenges. Speaking of STO’s ninth anniversary, Cryptic is continuing its week of free giveaways. If you adopted a tardigrade pet way back when, you can now claim it for keeps, plus PWE’s offering other daily goodies.

Redeeming the code fir the pet doesnt really work right now. Generally during most AoD updates there were “side-effects” so far.

Code was wonky last night, worked fine for me after patch. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s still wonky for some.

You are probably gonna hate the knowledge there might be one on you right now.

I came here to post my picture but this animated one was 1000x better.
Who doesn’t love tardigrades?
EDIT: OK I can contribute – they are also known as “moss piglets”. Not sure which is a cuter name.
EDIT2: there are something like 1500 species of them, and each individual of a given species has exactly the same number of cells in their bodies.

I take comfort in the knowledge that when we have extincted ourselves, the tardigrade will still be swimming along.

Media I know of that has tardigrades:

Paper Girls comic books. Few instances of a giant tardigrade battle.

The Wondla series of kids books. The main heroine rides a tardigrade.

It was my impression that you had to have taken part in the “tardigrade adoption” email thing they did a while back in order to get a free one.

Aye, it was the end of that e-mail promo chain. You can still buy one though.
