Mobile MMORPG Rebirth M launches in North America after aborted Kickstarter

Live today for iOS and Android is another new free-to-play mobile MMO, this one Caret Games’ RebirthM. The game’s been playable in Brazil since last fall, and now it’s opening up to North America. It boasts 3-D graphics, an “epic storyline,” a massive open world, daily missions, and events too.

“RebirthM is redefining the mobile MMORPG genre in many ways. First at all, players will start at level 100 and can level up indefinitely through the new upgrade system. Also, exclusive Elite Dungeon Challenges will open as the players are levelling, making them face extremely vicious and powerful elite bosses that will in return grant highly valuable items and rewards. Players will be able to go along the traditional MMORPG PvE environment, an occasion to explore the endless world and large variety of monsters of RebirthM. The game also features incredible and challenging PvP modes for more thrills, power and rewards. The real-time PvP action mode will let the players enroll in guilds and fight for the leadership of their teams. The PK survival mode is using the battle royale system to engage the players in fighting each other until only one champion remains.”

It looks as though Caret Games, which raised $28M from Softbank a year ago, tried to run this game on Kickstarter, but perhaps because no one knew about it, it raised only $810 from 17 backers and its $20,000 campaign was canceled two days ago. Also worth noting is that the press release today makes reference to “15 years of service on the PC platform,” but this is a Korean startup, so we assume they mean developer experience, not some PC predecessor’s live service.

Picking some different arbitrary level to be your starting level isn’t really redefining anything. So it says 100, but that’s your level 1. That’s not some huge redefinition of MMORPGs…

If you really want to redefine mobile MMORPGs, get rid of that auto button and lock boxes.

Apparently no one has phones.

Ok then..

I found this a little confusing? as well. I mean . . . why?

I’m assuming it’s a “catchup” thing, but if players don’t enjoy playing your game and need to skip large portions of it…then…what are you doing?

I think that’s just their base level. It’s not new players start at 100, it’s players start at 100. So they call level 1 as level 100 as far as I can tell.

Hmm…wonder why they didn’t choose to start at 8492
