Get a mobile EVE-like experience with Stellar Invictus

While we are still waiting on the release of EVE Echoes, the mobile version of CCP’s scifi sandbox, there is another option for those craving a similar experience on their smartphones or tablets.

Stellar Invictus offers an expansive space sim in the palm of your hand, and it is out right now. Players can pursue paths that appeal to them, such as being a merchant, miner, pirate, explorer, or manufacturer. It’s not the most visually exciting of games (think menus — lots of menus) but it might hit the spot for those with vivid imaginations.

In an interesting (if somewhat scary) twist, the studio has pledged to obey the whims of the community in terms of game development: “Every major gameplay or UI change has to be approved by the community in order to get into the game. A consent of at least 75% is required.”

It looks like Stellar Invictus is only out for Android right now, which you can grab on Google Play.

So, every batpoop crazy, Reddit armchair developer idea gets put in?

Pass thanks, sounds like developers who aren’t confident enough in their designs to stick with it and would rather be able to point at players when the whole thing becomes a jumbled mess of conflicting systems and mechanics.

I too was concerned about this, but that doesn’t seem to be whats happening, it appears to just be the developer himself coming up with ideas he likes, then he makes a poll for the playerbase as a whole to vote on it. One that popped up that I voted on today was about adding a logoff timer for the pvp zones to prevent log-off escapes. It got a 100% hell yes vote.

Haha… Well as the reply says from the other person, that’s not the case. I understand being worried though. There are a crazy amount of griefers and trolls who go around doing stupid things in groups.

They get kids games on Steam marked with “sexual content” and “gore” tags etc because they think it’s funny to do and there are enough of them to get together to get those tags listed for the games and there aren’t enough serious mature people who go through to flag the tags to get them taken down.

The griefer troll sheep have leaders that organize messing with games and things too. Childish people who go online and call for their sheep to come mess with things and get hundreds to sometimes thousands of their little immature followers to show up to screw with stuff. It saddens and sickens me.

I could imagine if the case was that they got to add suggestions, they’d all raid the community and say “Let’s turn all the ship designs into male genitalia.” and all vote yes. Luckily that’s not the case. The Developers come up with ideas for changes and the actual playing community says if they like it or not.

Neither the game nor it’s website have been working for the last two days, fairly sure this “game” is already dead and abandoned.

And by “dead” I don’t mean it’s not working, I mean neither the game or it’s website exist anymore according to searches for it.

It’s working perfectly fine. The problem maybe be on your end?

Appears to have just come back to life, it was definitely not on my end as the issues tracked all the way down to the server not existing temporarily.

No, I’m pretty sure it was on your end. You said it wasn’t working for the last two days, and I had investigated the game to make my own post below before your posting and everything was up and there just fine. I was poking over the website and things. It seems something along your route or your nameservers were having issues etc but the website was up and there.

I’m not seeing anybody else on reddit or anywhere saying they had problems reaching the website so I’m fairly confident it wasn’t the site itself.

Though it also may just be weird coincidence. Maybe the website was down a couple of times for very short periods, and it was at those exact times you tried to connect to it. Weirder stuff has happened.

Hmm I wanted to see what the combat was like, but in the only video I saw the guy didn’t do any combat. He was just flying around doing deliveries to make money.

The game looks to be mostly charts and text for what is going on with little pictures rather than playing the action out in motion graphically on screen. I’m still curious what the combat ends up like because of the way the game is made.

It will appeal to some people, though I personally am not a huge fan of games done like this, I do know a lot of people enjoy this type of thing. I’m more into physical action and twitch reaction playing.
