Project Winter thwarts group survival with dastardly traitors

Tell us if this sounds like a game you’ve played before: You and a handful of comrades are stranded far from civilization and must scrounge, craft, build, and cooperate to survive and (eventually) escape. That’s pretty much every survival game, right?

Well with Project Winter, there’s a twist on this old formula. In every group of eight players there are one or more unidentified traitors who are tasked with secretly working against the group. When you’re not sure who you can trust and just about everything wants to kill you, what will you do?

Project Winter’s fascinating setup has a lot of people interesting in this upcoming title — and the striking cartoony graphics don’t hurt its cause either. The title officially arrived on Steam early access today following its beta period. Give the trailers a look below and see if this might earn an hour or ten from you this week!

Hard pass on this one.

I play a lot of tabletop games, and actually enjoy the ones like Dead of Winter where there may or may not be a traitor in your group. However, bringing that experience to an MMO where you are paired with strangers sounds horrible. After we identify the traitor or they succeed in their sabotage we all have a good laugh cause we only spent like an hour or two playing AND we are all excellent friends. However I already don’t enjoy some random person outside of my group destroying my hard work in survival games, them being someone who has insider knowledge and has been working with would make that experience way worse.

Kind of an interesting cross between survival games and games like Town of Salem

Yeah sure, make the griefer a build in part of your team, what a wonderful idea for your spare time.

Why would you want to create paranoia/distrust among people? Especially in an MMO. We already have enough of that going on in the world, and don’t need more of it.
