It goes clicky.

If you’re still a little confused as to why EA would drop something like Apex Legends right as hype was reaching its peak for Anthem… well, I suspect it has a lot to do with other similar “it seemed like a good idea in the short-term” business moves major AAA companies have made in the last few weeks, whether or not it makes sense long-term.

That said, it’s not super clear that Anthem was going to be all fine and dandy even without its little brother photobombing its big moment. The game seemed hampered by high expectations for BioWare from its older school fans and its artificially elongated early access modes, plus so many gamers seemed confused about the business model (you would not believe how many people were absolutely convinced the game would launch with lockboxes, no matter how many times BioWare promised that was not happening).

The first weekend of its official launch, its Metacritic scores are solidly “meh,” and we even had reports of the game hitting the bargain bin already. The Reddit fanbase is actually more worried than anything, comparing it to other decent games that had lackluster launches, like The Division. (Although they’re certainly raising a stink over the ongoing loot issues.) I’m curious how the MMO-centric audience is taking it. What’s your biggest beef with Anthem?

Endgame design, currently.

It seems to want to be Diablo like. Run harder difficulties to get better gear upgrades. But this doesn’t really work well cause there is not enough variety in classes and builds to make playing a different kind enjoyable.

Plus, it is quickly doable. By the end of the “early access” I already had full masterwork gear/equipment. Why would I grind out legendaries? And why worry about getting cosmetics with little in the way to show it/use it?

I vote for my inability to understand where the hate is coming from.

I’m really enjoying the game and look forward to playing it every night.

I was watching Anthem on twitch, and for combat this guy had this huge, bright and flashy wall of fire covering a good portion of his screen, the entire time he was in combat.

Umm, don’t know about you, but staring into the sun is not my ideal gaming experience.

How are the excessive & long load screens not a part of this vote? o.O

This is all predictable, I remember seeing an early gameplay vid maybe 3 months ago and knowing clearly that’s going to be an anemic launch of an anemic game, a looter shooter action RPG should be significantly more fast-paced and “action-y” to succeed, then players would forgive all the bugs and glitches and stupid story. This game just doesn’t look fun and never did.

Needs too many to list.

I will be the first to say that I was hyped. I bought into all the bs.

This game is flat out terrible. It’s so bad it seems like bioware actually tried to make it bad.

1 part E.A., mixed with 1 part too little work done, combined with 1 part of foresight that it likely was going to be a hot mess based around the hype, buzzwords, and history of recent development out of the people making the game.

Simply put, they would have had to change my mind post release, since there were too many big potential issues to have me excited much prior to launch. They have not. So, I guess my biggest beef is that it is as I expected?

Played the alpha, played the beta, played early access; uninstalled today after realizing that there hasn’t been a single time that I’ve actually looked forward to getting on and playing.

Every single time I’ve played the game I’ve encountered bugs, be it getting stuck walking in a straight line, missions failing to complete, crashing, group functions just not working, you name it. Couple all of that with ceaseless load screens and it just feels like a chore to actually get in and do something. Then once you get to that point it’s just…medicore. The combat couldn’t be more average, flying is fine but feels clunky (especially on PC), difficulty settings have been changed like 3 times in 2 weeks (sick beta). Destiny 2 had more content at launch than Anthem, and Destiny 2’s biggest problem is that it didn’t have enough content. The best thing that you can say about the game is that it looks great, but that’s squandered by the fact that it’s terribly optimized and destroys CPUs. Everything just feels so haphazard, and it could have used a few more months, at minimum, in development.

The business model through Origin Access is awesome, because the $15 that I spent to play the demo weekend covered my subscription up until now. I’ve given the game more than a fair shake, but this game coming on the heels of Andromeda’s lackluster reception makes me question what’s going on over at Bioware.

To busy playing Warframe’s currently. I may have a go at it once the locust leave and the price point drops.

I could say a lot about what I disliked in this game but there are videos who did it better:

P.S: It’s ok if you disagree with those people, you don’t need to tell me that. This will not change my opinion and if you still like the game – you are also allowed to keep liking it without forcing anyone else to agree with your opinion.

I watched both of these as well. Skill Up is both thorough and fair so I really respect his reviews. Angry Joe does a pretty decent job and is entertaining.

It’s all good. I agree and disagree with folks here all the time and nonetheless, appreciate the conversation.

As for these two vids, I agree and disagree. Lol. It would take to long to do a deep dive into both. But suffice it to say, I view the current state of Anthem as a starting point of a great game IF it is allowed to continue. I’m not sure that will happen, but I hope Bioware is allowed to fully support Anthem and their vision for Anthem despite the negative feedback.

BUT, I have to say, personally, I think Joe has jumped the shark. I’ve followed him for years and respect his opinions, but as I watched him test the Anthem demo and then watched his live streams on Twitch, I became convinced that his preconceptions of the game clouded his judgment. Why? His buddy Dale(?) has a lot to do with it. But I digress. And once Joe has made his mind up, he truly can’t objectively review a game.

As an example, he criticizes the game for loot drops that did not include cosmetic items and explains that this is part of a cash shop conspiracy. And later he hammers the cash shop for not having anything in it? What?

Nah, man. That’s just looking for stuff the hate. Heh. And it gets worse. He posted another 30 min vid tearing down the game some more. For what reason?

He gives the game a 4 out of 10? Lol!

Bro? What happened to you? The game is not trash by any objective standard. Because that is what 4 is. Look back at your own reviews and see what type of games get a 4 and you will see that Anthem, despite its issues, merits higher.

There I’ve had my say. You don’t have to agree. I’m playing the game and readily accept the real issues as valid. As I have stated before, the game was not ready for launch. But to trash the game the way Joe does? Nah. It serves no purpose other than to feed they hysteria.

I definitely recommend the first two minutes of Angry Joe’s review. That was hilarious. At first, I thought there was an issue with the video editing…

Yeap, there’s another pretty funny moment when they show the awful dialogue choices during NPC conversations in this game ;-)
