Get an advance look at Dungeons and Dragons Online’s Tiefling

The excitement is ramping up for Dungeons and Dragons Online: Masterminds of Sharn, the spring expansion that’s already in testing on the Lamannia server. In fact, players eager to get an advance look at the new content and features are combing through Sharn right now. The debut of a much-desired D&D race, the Tiefling, has drawn a lot of attention, and DDO Players put together a pair of videos to show Tiefling character creation options and its enhancement (talent) tree.

The Tiefling isn’t the only new character creation option coming with Sharn; Standing Stone Games recently announced that players can invest into the Inquisitive enhancement tree and roll up an iconic Scoundrel hero as well.

Sharn is taking pre-orders this month, and you can get your sneak peek at the Tiefling after the break.

DDO Players may be updating the videos on their YouTube channel.

I’ve checked a few other sites and anything embedded is giving me that 500 Internal Server message. I’m watching youtube right now so it’s not youtube.

I sent DDO Players a message letting them know about the error on their website with the embedded videos.

DDO Players fixed the video issue.

It was a problem across YouTube last night, not to worry! :)

Not one to criticize, but is that dude running DDO on a potato or does it really look that dated?

I was thinking the same thing. The textures, especially the front of the horns, look terrible. I haven’t played DDO since launch but I don’t remember it looking this bad.

Here’s a slightly better video. Textures aren’t nearly as rough and the bloom lighting looks to be running. Still looks a bit iffy though.

Well DDO is a pretty old MMO. Released Feb 06. So its 13 years old.

That’s like 1300 in tech years.

That said I applaud them for supporting this game with constant updates and improvements.

I still remember playing it when it first came out and Gary Gygax himself narrated the first big adventure you ran on.

Yeah, that’s Delara’s Tomb. Dave Arneson (the other co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons) narrates the Ruins of Threnal, and Wil Wheaton narrates the Temple of Elemental Evil. Not sure what other guest narrators they’ve had.

The front looks as ugly as Ferengi from Star Trek. I actually had tl take a closer looks as I wan’t sure if that was for real or some joke.

Slightly racist potato?

It really is funny. Both DDO and LotRO share the same engine and development company. Yet LotRO’s graphics have managed to age gracefully, and the newer stuff has even slowly raised the visual bar. Plus they’ve gone through and enhanced the original zones to bring them up to the quality of the current content. Yet DDO seems perpetually stuck at 13 years ago. Has there ever even been an update to character models or textures? What they’ve done with the Tieflings looks exactly the same level of quality as what the game launched with.

SSG is planning to work on a 64-bit version of the DDO client (similar to LOTRO’s 64-bit client), but there is no set release date yet.

Dude spent like 8 minutes of a 13 minute video going through hairstyles in that first video.

Tieflings are horns and tails. HORNS AND TAILS. Not hairstyles.
