I think you’re stressing the class thing too much. A lot of the meta talk revolves mostly around scenarios like peak grinding performance (IE: Can you grind Hystria, which typically has an extreme end game gear requirement) or PvP scenarios such as in Siege or Node Wars.

The blunt reality is that for your level of self ascribed game play of hopping in once in a while to check things out or to muck about any class will work so long as you stick to it. While a Maewha may not have the prime trash clear potential you’re equally probably not as obsessed with min-maxing your silver/hr either.

As for which class to play, it’s ultimately up to you what you want to do with the game. For the most practical of purposes a Witch offers the most utility. The base class allows you to heal, provide damage reduction, and even drop magical orbs that taunt opponents giving you a real utility advantage over most classes. This is why I play a Wizard, the male equivalent as being able to taunt, heal and deal damage is the holy trinity in one package. They’re both also mechanically simple and very flashy.

But how a class really plays is pretty much determined at 56 when you awaken it so you have to be willing to take a character that far. As you noted leveling is extremely accelerated now so getting there typically requires a few hours of effort.
