Grim Dawn’s Forgotten Gods expansion will arrive on March 27th

Last week, Crate Entertainment announced that its post-apocalyptic ARPG Grim Dawn would be receiving a new expansion, Forgotten Gods, sometime this month, and now we’ve got an actual release date. The expansion, which will take players beyond the shattered remnants of the Erulan Empire and into unforgiving deserts where the eponymous forgotten god is sowing discord and mayhem, will be landing on March 27th at the affordable price of $15.99 US.

Forgotten Gods will pick up Grim Dawn’s story where it left off after Ashes of Malmouth, setting players on a new journey in a “massive story chapter” that will find our heroes battling alongside the Witch God cults to “vanquish the rising threat of a forgotten god.” It will also introduce new gameplay features, including the brand-new Shattered Realm game mode in which players will “face off against Carin’s foes in ever more challenging shards of an unstable reality” in search of “unique rewards and mountains of loot.”

Players will also be able to take on the new Oathkeeper mastery. The introduction of this divine-magic-wielding, shield-bashing class will encourage exciting new builds and bring Grim Dawn’s total number of possible class combinations to an impressive 36. You’ll only have to wait a little over two weeks to step into Forgotten Gods for yourself, but if you want to get a taste of what you can expect from the expansion when it goes live, you can check out the official trailer just below.

It’s totally terrible. The expansion is two weeks away and I still haven’t the faintest idea which secondary class I will choose for my Oathkeeper first. I leaning towards Soldier for a “my shield is my castle” build, but when I open grimtools and try to come up with a build, I get distracted by all the other options and fiddle around aimlessly.

Soooo terrible.

I like this game better than POE. Great small dev team too. Will be buying this. Really different game because it’s post Apocalyptic game world and not straight up fantasy.

Really looking forward to this, but saddened that this will be the end of the journey, at least for now. There is always hope that Cairn will expand upon in the future.

Massively has a Not-So-Massively that tends to cover most ARPGs, and some other little gems like Stardew Valley, with some form of multiplayer capability. This is probably because the staff seems to be big fans of ARPGs, and I know Bree is a bit of a fan of Titan Quest, of which Grim Dawn is a spiritual successor of sorts.

Great game, cool setting some sloppy mechanics but overall a rich dungeon diving experience with a unique soundtrack.

Overall, looking forward to this.

Seeing as MMOs haven’t had any real additions in years and the news surrounding existing ones is generally bad I think this site is just covering games they’re either interested in themselves or are super popular.

This is just speculation of course

its not a bad game, the price is good for the amount of content it sounds like you’re getting. I didn’t see anything special jump out and make me want to play it though.

It has multiplayer options for those that want it. Seems quite active in terms of sessions available but I have never actually tried that myself.

This looks really good and I have liked what I have seen from the dev steams I have watched. Will be an instabuy from me as soon as the buy button appears on the steam page.

The only sad thing is that it has been 99.9% confirmed that this will be the last expansion for Grim Dawn. That said there is a modding community who I expect will keep things interesting so I don’t imagine that I will stop playing it even after I exhaust this expansion content.

Crate Entertainment are working on another unrelated game that isn’t an arpg so they are not going anywhere either.

If you don’t mind, could you provide a source for the info that forgotten gods most likely is the last GD expansion ?
I have been unable to dig that up myself.

It’s been said several times during the devs live streams that they have run throughout the development of this dlc. The only caveat they have offered is one might happen if the dlc sales are off the charts.

From what has been said Crate will do bug fixes for dlc but otherwise they are stepping away from Grim Dawn and arpgs to work on a new unrelated game.

Thanks a lot.
Only had a brief look into those streams, so i missed that.
I prefer playing Forgotten Gods as unspoiled as possible, and i didn’t need to watch the streams to make up my mind about it, i knew i’d buy it the day it was announced.
Bit of a shame in a way, but on the other hand probably the perfect time for them to stop and move on to something new. GD remains a great game with plenty of content and replay value.
And then of course there is also the prospect to play something new from a developer i have come to hold in high regard.
Looking forward to learn more about that.
