Heroes of the Storm discusses ranked mode and hero changes in an AMA

Considering the rollback in operations for the MOBA Heroes of the Storm, fans were very likely eager to hear from the game’s devs. The first of several scheduled AMA’s with the team provided a number of insights into pending changes to heroes and ranked modes, as well as a word on the MOBA’s esports scene and overall community.

In terms of ranked play, the Hero League and Team League will merge in an effort to stymie Team League overpopulation and ensure a broad range of skill levels. This also works hand-in-hand with tweaks to placement, which will take in to account the highest Ranked Mode MMR from a player’s profile and normalizing it. If you’ve never touched Ranked Mode, there will be adjustments to try and ensure you don’t end up being dropped into a higher bracket. Ranked play will also see a new role system introduced, which lets players select two of their most preferred roles in an effort to make team building easier for everyone.

The devs also provided a brief acknowledgement of reworks incoming for the Support character Tassadar and the Warrior character Chen. Specifics on what’s being done to boost these two heroes weren’t shared, but there is mention of using the psychic abilities demonstrated in the Legacy of the Void cinematic as inspiration for Tassadar.

Finally, the devs stated that they’re eager to continue to support the HotS esports scene in any way they can, beseeching organizers and fans of events to reach out to the devs with ways the team can help. They also provided some simple advice on how to help the MOBA grow:

“Play the game. Bring a friend or four….Keep telling us what you love and, more importantly, what we need to do better. When we make something you think is awesome, spend your Gold or Shards or Gems on it. Be kind to each other and have fun together, because that’s what this is all about.”

This was the only MOBA I actually played. I enjoyed it but didn’t play it much, mostly bot matches but it was neat playing the various characters. I ended up playing Murky and Chromie the most. Chromie’s timing was rough but she was powerful when used well and Murky, well being a baby murloc that can slap you with fish is pure win.

Seems like a reasonable path for a game now mature and bleeding.

Considering how shitty their PBMM was, i don’t trust they’ll implement this well.

Also, while i get that Team League was tossed to the vultures, when was the last time that merging teams of 4/5 with soloqueuers was a good idea?

I don’t really expect much out of the game at this point – so really the fact they are looking at it all tells me they care even a little bit. I think the team’s back is up against the wall.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. I do think they care. I just think Activision doesn’t give a shit.

They can discuss the drift of flying pigs, for all i care. It’s all empty words on a game all but abandoned.

I’ll shoot myself in the knee before supporting Blizz with any of this crap anymore.

They are currently releasing content with almost the same speed as before and it never takes more than 40sec to find a match, even at the most strange times (EU) I believe NA is even more populated.
Considering you do not need to throw a single cent to play and to win I really don’t understand what makes you so upset.

The game was in a way worse stage before the “famous announcement”, matches were taking even 15mins to start. now it’s just perfect.

What a bunch of crap. No game whatsoever loses developers and is in a “good state”. HGC was promised for 2019, then dropped without forewarning, leaving people without jobs and care. The entire community had to come together to fix said issue because Blizzard just didn’t make this game decent enough to gather attention.

This is a F2P Moba. No F2P Moba should take 15min to start. HotS isn’t perfect, it’s stagnant, it’s bleeding. What do you do with bleeding animals that can’t move far enough? You sacrifice them.

It’s laughable when after 800 hundred layoffs over the entire companies, people still come with this crap that “game is fine!”. Yeah, it isn’t.

And one more thing:

Unless you were one of those 0,00001% Esport players, that’s the only way your post could make sense

I don’t think you realize that mobas live for e-sports. They’re made for it, and people play for it. The entire concept of mobas is around being spectated. A moba that doesn’t have viewership is a failure.

Its too early to assess content releases. They are probably pushing out features that were quite far in production before reorganization happend. It will take more time to see how much content this smaller team can produce on its own.

Esport events were very fun to watch and they made game feel alive. TBH HGC was more important to me than content cadences.
