Betawatch: Ashes of Creation wants itself some big organized PvP fights

So Ashes of Creation is delaying its testing phase, that’s not a big deal. The game still has plans for nice big and meaty PvP battles, as explained in its most recent development update. Specifically, it wants the largest organized battles of any MMORPG, and when you’ve just had to delay things to get back on track, isn’t that the best time to push for doing bigger things than anyone else has ever successfully done before?

Let’s just move on to other beta news, shall we? But first we’ll bid a fond farewell to The Division 2, which has moved fully into the launch category now. Other games have not:

Now, if you’re not playing something that’s just launched? You might want to check out that list of games in testing we have just below. And you might want to let us know if something jumped test phases without us noticing. All of that stuff is kind and good!

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.

Should you really list Edengrad? The developer disappeared and hasn’t updated any communication channels in months after taking luxurious trips with what appears to be the kickstarter money. It’s detailed quite well on Steam.

Is it just me or are there no PvE focused games in development now? It’s all PvP this and PvP that.

There will be a lot of PvE content in Ashes of Creation like world events, dungeons, and raids. Mostly players interested in PvP, that’s why we get all the news about sieges and PvP fights. If you need PvE focused game you can try Path of Exile.

Battle Royales don’t have a lot of PvE in them

Do not mistake Ashes of Creation which is MMORPG with Ashes of Creation Apocalypse which is Battle Royale.

I’ll believe Ashes of Creation MMORPG exists when I see it and it isn’t just the developer talking about it.

Perhaps but it seems in that case then I am just a lamb for the slaughter. No thanks.

Sadly, that is the goal of the money side right now. Since PvP games are so much cheaper and quicker to develop, they hope that everyone will either be interested, or will want to play badly enough they serve as a target.

Of course, that’s never going to happen, and once the eventual recognition that there’s not one MMO market, but a handful of different markets, hits… we will likely have a slightly healthier genre. Sadly, that should have been a known thing ages ago, and the big money that lets games happen has big money’s same old problem (head buried in dark crevice).

Are you ignoring Ever, Jane?
