Camelot Unchained moves Characters 2.0 to its master build and works on lighting people on fire

Camelot Unchained has apparently gotten better at setting you on fire. That is to say, City State Entertainment worked out a particle system that reduces CPU load for better frame rates while still looking good/painful. This is just one of a number of updates out of the MMO’s weekly wrap-up, which also offered word on Characters 2.0 progress and ability system improvements among other things.

The Characters 2.0 update has seen a pretty significant step forward as assets have now been moved over to the game’s master, with only a few reported adjustments needed to LODs, animation, and other particulars. In short, there should be better performing and prettier avatars charging about soon.

On the ability system side of things, the devs were busy linking abilities to FX, improving the game’s progression system, and adjusting relevant stats. Initial internal and IT/Alpha backer testing in the Castle Siege scenario reportedly went well, so these changes may move to the master build soon as well.

Speaking of testing, a number of physics server crashes forced Camelot Unchained to call off usual testing this past weekend. Backers should keep their eyes peeled on the testing schedule, however, as more tests are likely to arrive during the week.

As ever, more details can be read on the website or gleaned from the Q&A livestream embedded below.

Not a chance it hits this fall or winter of this year, not a chance. Knowing this teams timelines..

I seriously believe it’s a winter 2020 release date and that’s being nice. Just guessing based on the development. I mean the kickstarter was in 2013 with a estimated delivery of dec 2015 which was 4 years ago..4.

They’re now 6 years into this project with most likely another 1 1/2-2 years to even get a somewhat playable project out.

There not much chance of many of the mmos in development getting to launch this year apart from Saga of Lucimia and Torchlight both of which don’t interest me much .

So I guess for the lack of anything else it will be classic WoW and lotro for me until one of the up and coming mmo’s I am interested in finally releases . Weird to think 12 years later I will be playing the same mmo’s I played in 2007 .

That fire clip was highly realistic. Fire mages OP confirmed (I think we already know this though. Mark secretly envisions the end of the world as a hellish landscape set ablaze by fire wizards).

Moi? Now why ever would you say that? :)

I still want to do a game of elemental mages only, maybe in the future. I never got to finish the MUD that was going to be both the sequel to my first MUD, Aradath, and was an elemental mages-only game. I still want to do that game even though Camelot Unchained certainly has some elements of it.

Thanks Chris. We also just (like 2 hours ago), moved the ability branch to the main branch as well. We are testing the main branch as I write this (and get killed repeatedly by another mage).

So yeah, lots of progress. :)

So when will we get to see a clip of 2,000 bots running around all on fire?

Hehe, I’ll see what I can do when we start streaming. If/when I forget, ping me here and I’ll make it happen. Would be a fun video to watch, especially if they then go into a dance while the Doors hit plays in the background, right? :)

That’s going to be interesting;)! FWIW the ‘on fire’ graphic looks pretty good (even on a crappy phone). Can’t wait to see a GOT sized army on fire!

Me too. Our slogan: Fire is coming! :)
