Gamigo has now confirmed RIFT’s upcoming battle pass

Over the weekend, we covered player datamining that appeared to suggest RIFT, now under the management of Gamigo, is due to receive some sort of battle pass, likely a limited-time daily quest generator tied to seasonal rewards and a specialty experience track – the sort popular in other multiplayer games the last few years. This afternoon, Gamigo confirmed that the battle pass is indeed on the way – “coming soon.”

But beyond that, we know nothing. The tweet doesn’t include more information on what to expect, nor is there anything on the official game forums or website as we type this, which is weird because Gamigo is on Twitter requesting feedback on it anyway.

Course, that’s not stopping the frustrated RIFT community – you’ll recall the players are still reeling from Gamigo’s cancellation of the game’s progression server – from putting together its own thread to discuss the battle pass in detail.

Source: Twitter. Cheers, Fredelas!

When Trion (now Gamigo) originally announced the progession server (aka PRIME aka Vigil) they always stated it was not going to be a permanent thing and they had no plans to extend it beyond twelve months. Saying Gamigo cancelled the progression server is dumb, they are just doing with the server what was originally planned to be done with it.

As for the Battle Pass, is this going to take the place of the current Patron Pass or run in conjunction with it? I hope it’s an extra perk for subscribers, perks are nice.

Pass.

So a battle pass for an mmo? I’ll set my expectations to ‘seasonal sub trap’ in mmo terms.

But boy if it takes off you bloody well know Blizzards going to see it, especially under their new ‘take design notes from mobage rather than rpgs’ stance and go “oh we want us a piece of that pie i tell you what”.

Damnit Gamigo.

So it has a subscription, loot boxes, micro-transactions, and now a battle pass? Seems a bit excessive to have all of that.

Is this all Rift is worth to them now. This is a real shame.

I initially read this as ‘battle chest’, which would actually make some sense since the DLC has migrated into parts about which a new player would have no clue.

But battle pass? No idea what that is. But this is Gamigo so I expect lootboxes. :P

I don’t really get the point of a Battle Pass for an MMORPG. Is it just a seasonal to-do list for rewards or something that you have to pay for? Seems like an odd thing to shove into RIFT in an attempt to get more money from folks who are already concerned that the game is reaching its end days.

I really don’t understand the appeal or purpose of the pass, can some one explain this to me? I was under the impression that Rift like most MMOs already have dailies, and if you want randomly generated content you do Instant Adventure.

Like…all 10 that were still playing there? >.>

Hopefully they’re not just bolting on some kind of hacked together BR mode for this. But for the life of me I can’t figure out why they’re promoting something like this without telling folks what it even is. Maybe gamigo can tell us what they have in mind before asking for feedback?

And yes Bree, Clippy would be more informative than gamigo is right now -_-

Last I heard, the progression server was pretty much where the actives played and was relatively busy. But I hadn’t heard anything recently on it so they may have departed when Gamigo took over. (even though I wasn’t currently playing, that’s when I decided to uninstall)

It was for a while when it was supported, but it’s been quite a while since it was last really supported so it seems players have drifted off.

The reason why it was active and live wasn’t was because that’s where all their development resources were, live has largely been abandoned (save for copy/paste balance patch notes from Prime) since Prime launched.

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah, I knew all of their meager resources had been shifted to Prime and it was actually pretty fun. I guess I should have made the assumption that when their dev team was almost entirely let go that the remaining players would have returned to the F2P servers.
