Lady toons are finally in the current Star Citizen alpha test

71

Hellooooooo, ladies.

I’m gonna set aside my rant about how I feel about online games that deprioritize female characters for years of testing and just get on with the fact that hey, they’re here now in Star Citizen. In Star Citizen’s alpha 3.5, that is, after quite a bit of delay, as they were meant to launch last year. But Elite Evocati testers are putting the female toons through their paces now, literally.

Worth noting is that the footage below was actually submitted by testers as bug reports and then yoinked for display and leaking on Reddit, so a lot of the stuff floating around the internet right now does contain glitches and bugs by design; presumably, those will all be mopped up come release to the full backer complement.

And yes, she has a very FemShep vibe, but we’re here for it.

There’s a pic of a lady’s bare back in the last shot; maybe NSFW for some of you, so heads up.

Its good females are “in”, but kind of sad it took this long I mean they were never optional content..

The video also is kind of pointless too, sure the feminine walk animation looks good but showing us the customisations options available would have shown us HOW “in” female characters really are, this right now just looks like concept art and a motion animation and thats all.

Something more substantive and informative would have been preferred.

i think teh swagger might need to be toned down a bit but it might look less slightly too much in heavier armor.

The ‘game’ isn’t even out yet as in, still in development. Had they not released a female avatar at launch, I could see an issue but this is a non issue people are choosing to make one.

Now back to my vicarious fashion wars living as a female in Guildwars 2.

You’d find Second Life to be far more satisfying. About (literally) a million more clothing choices, even animated/cloth physics ones. And jewelry. And hairstyles. And shoes. etc. etc. etc.

Is 2ndLife even a game? It always felt like more of a huge place for companies to interact with clients and make PR to me. I’m being honest, what’s the gameplay like?

the gameplay modes i’ve seen largely involve large element of erotic roleplaying involving BDSM and kidnapper/hostage roleplay.

not even kidding.

pretty run of the mill for second life tho. lots of lots of ERP. much of it for profit.

No, i was pretty much aware of that. I just wonder about the rest of the game.

Edit: What the actual fuck was i watching? It’s full of glitches.

A horror show by the looks of it. Yikes. I started to watch but quickly stopped.

But anyway the glitches and stuff and graphical errors are pretty much what I’ve always experienced when looking at Second Life. Much of it is pieced together bit by bit and is very glitchy.

Also they’re loading in much of this stuff for the first time when walking in the room, so you’re getting the stuff all slowly loading onto their system and looking weird as well. The graphics and animations and things are all loading in and people are trying to interact before they’re done, making things look even more glitchy.

I had to stop watching after 60 seconds though as I don’t need nightmares about that stuff. I already feel like I want to wash my brain clean. Kittens, I need kitten pics.

My primary MMO these days is Champions Online. Lately, I’ve also been playing a lot of The Sims 4. I do like dressing up my dolls be they men, women, dogs, cats, or robots. However, I don’t anticipate going hog wild in Star Citizen in the customization area, but I do plan to enjoy being a future spaceman cowboy mercenary salvager pilot.

Whaat.. they didn’t have them until now? O_O

Obviously wasn’t their ‘core’ audience.

I’m guessing they figured it made more sense to cater to typical White, young/middle-aged males with money to throw at imaginary ships for years on end without holding them accountable.

Most women are probably too smart for that kind of thing so having a female avatar probably would have not enriched the bottom line so no need to waste resources on it until money starts to dry up.

Liked the comment by mistake, ugh.

Uh oh..someone came out from under the troll bridge…

I don’t think it’s beneath SC to offer that. Clearly based on what they’ve been doing in the past with it’s base, nothing is too patronizing for them at this point.

No need to White Knight here, friend.

or maybe the Wonder Bra spaceship of this cult classic…

There is a lot of times I have disagreed with Mr. Supreme, but the one thing he’s never done was to troll as far as I am concerned. Perhaps you need to ask yourself why you felt his post was doing that. Non?

…and no, I am not just rebutting this because he posted a pink ship either. (Thus if anything could be argued, that he was only trolling me with that. >.< )

Now that they’ve got female models in, RSI should really start raking in the cash.

She doesn’t walk like most of the women I know…pretty stiff.
And I agree about the silliness of ‘adding’ female toons as an afterthought, I mean c’mon, boob physics ALONE is like, it’s own design team task…
It was for Soul Calibur, anyway http://www.ifc.com/2011/05/how-soul-calibur-keeps-its-boo

PS I had to look up FemShep, I feel very meme-current right now.

Yeah, like how this is turning out. It was really interesting to see how they went and designed the new skeleton and such.
