Fallout 76 is coming to Steam sometime soon

While initial indicators were that Fallout 76 was going to skip over Steam in favor of Bethesda’s own digital games platform, time can change minds. Or maybe this was the plan all along. Regardless of the reason, Fallout 76 will be headed to Valve’s platform soon.

There’s a lot of use of the word “soon” here because the launch window is officially “later this year” — a revelation provided by Bethesda’s Twitter account. The company also confirms that RAGE 2, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, and DOOM Eternal will also be launching on Steam as well as Bethesda’s storefront. Naturally.

As for the game itself, players can expect the PvP-centric survival mode to enter beta at some point this week, though no firm date of the mode’s beta launch is available at the time of this writing.

This was planned from the beginning. I’m glad I waited to purchase. Not only will it be a better game, but i’ll pick it up on one of the Steam sales!

I’m actually having a lot of fun in Fallout 76. I miss the RPG/story stuff of the other games but running around picking up garbage in the wasteland is a fun as ever.

A chance for Bethesda to get the modding community to do some bug fixing?

Smart move, esp. since most of the kinks have been wrung out at this point. I dinked around in it again yesterday to catch the tail-end of the Fasnacht Parade stuff and had quite a bit of fun with it.

Chances are that it’ll get a swath of negative reviews simply because it exists, but the game looks to be improving and they’re finally at a point where they’re adding new content/activities after getting most of the game-breaking stuff taken care of. Still has quite a bit of potential to be something special.

Id say something about people playing this game having low standards and expectations…

but considering the state of most games released today, id say it appears to just be par for the course.

Still playing FO76 casually and still having a good time. All things point to the game getting more and more content and bug fixes so good on Bethesda.

I guess Bethesda is learning that you need to invest some serious time and money into your own launcher if you want to compete, and having a good game at launch helps too.

I imagine FO76 will be in a very solid place by the time it lands on Steam. This is neato.

I do question how many people will still avoid this game, even on Steam… unless its like 5 bucks.

Its gotten such a bad rep I dont think a different launcher is going to change much.

Im sure they will squeeze out some more sales though from those that simply refused to only buy on the bethesda launcher.

But then again, of all the dev studios out there, if there’s one who can manage to turn a really bad launch around, Bethesda would be it.

Or would that be ZOS… hmm. Let’s wait and see.

Based on what? Crappy releases of every other game they have had?

Bethesda isnt the one who turned around their other games, it was the FANS with their mods that did. The fans have always been the ones to fix the bugs, glitches, and fill in the content gaps.

unless its like 5 bucks.

Not unthinkable for a game that was literally given for free with the purchase of a thumb cap.

At that price I will probably purchase a copy, if only so I can extract assets from it to use for modding offline Fallout games. Or to play if/when Bethesda makes the private server with modding support they hinted at available without charging a subscription.

Well well well, look who changed their minds all of a sudden.
Jokes aside, Rage 2 is the only one i want. Looks fun as hell.

all of a sudden? They announced it was coming to steam eventually before it was launched.

I wasn’t all that interested in Rage 2 despite having some fun with the first one then I saw the trailers. The trailers make it look like it will be all fun explosions and coming up with creative ways to turn the bad guys (or anyone else who gets in the way) into red paste.

Certainly paying attention to it now and if I have some spare money around the launch date I may well give it a spin.

“Fallout 76 on Steam”
Well, I guess Epic just won the store wars. /snark It should/will go to the epic store too. Put it on Itch.io and GOG too while you’re at it.

I’ll play it on a free weekend or whatever. I’m just happy I won’t feel left out when DOOM Eternal comes out.
