Vindictus introduces a whole different kind of portal gun on April 30

Hero number 14 is coming to Vindictus in just over a month, and her name is Eira, the Void Witch. To celebrate, Nexon is hosting a registration event on April 30th and warm-up event leading up to her launch.

First, let’s talk about Eira herself, then we’ll jump into the details of the events. Since this is an action-combat MMOG, Eira’s abilities are the most important, right? How does she play? She carries two super-sized revolvers as her primary weapon, but that’s not all. She’s a Void Witch. In the world of Vindictus, that means she can open portals to another dimension to jump through, or in the case of her Infinity Shot and Waveform Collapse skills, shoot something else through them. For some reason, when things get shot through the portals they multiply, but when she jumps through there is only one of her. Perhaps that’s something to study in another column.

Her backstory revolves around an ancient god her family worshipped. This god was the source of their power and the cause of the family’s destruction. The storytelling trope dictates that all parents are either useless or dead, so if you guessed that Eira’s parents are dead, then you win the prize. However, did you guess that her sister was killed or captured by the god that her family worshipped? Then you’ve been reading TV Tropes, too.

Leading up to the big event on April 30th, Nexon is giving away Eira-exclusive items every day in what it is calling a Warm-up Attendance Event. These items include Abyssal Shards, AP capsules, and cosmetics for Eira. Some items are tradeable, some are tradeable within your account, and others are bound to Eira. Be sure to check the whole list for the dates that the items are available; there are different items on different dates.

Lastly, if you register for Eira before April 28th, you will earn the Eira reward package. This includes two different armor sets, a hair coupon, a new title, and an elite character slot. Both the registration and warm-up event start today. If you’d like to join in, hop over the official website to get started. In the meantime, enjoy these images of Eira in action.

Side note: The backstory art shows Eira in a short-short skirt, but in the in-game images she’s in shorts. Is this a product of “Westernization?”

I really want to get back into Vindictus, but the pile of broken mice by my desk says ‘No’. :D

Those guns look awfully familiar…

Looks fairly cool. Vindictus still has the best combat of any mmo that I’ve played (better than BDO in my opinion). Just wish there was more to it than grinding instances

So she’s the Party City off-brand costume version of Bayonetta, then.

Gdi Vindictus, don’t tempt me to come back in when I always get disappointed after awhile due to the cash shop shenanigans that ruins an otherwise amazing game.

Man, I’d kill for an open world Vindictus sequel with these characters from another publisher. There’s so much I like about the game – physics are awesome, character models are gorgeous (all the waifus and husbandos!), action is fast and super fun etc.

But then…Nexon, who are a huge, massive old “NOPE” from me due to atrocious CS and the fact that, at least when I was last playing, the grind to get to endgame is pretty soul crushing (I never got close).

I wish I liked the whole game, because there are a ton of bits I do love, but I just can’t fall in love how I want.

I have the same issue with it. I’ve tried several times, but there’s always two sticking points. The engine seems pretty bad (especially in town). The second one is that it seems to need a pruning on advancement/quests. The progression doesn’t seem to follow a linear pattern..and not like designed to not be linear like they have bolted stuff on and the old stuff doesn’t make sense anymore.

It’s an unlicensed version of Source 1.0, so they’re not getting any support from Valve. I don’t remember town being too bad, but I haven’t played in years so I’m way outta the loop on what it’s like nowadays.

Yeah the game is really quite fun early on. I like how much there is to do, collect, etc…

But then it starts to feel like a slog, and it steadily becomes clear that they want you to spend plenty of money on the cash shop if you want to get anywhere later on without getting regularly kicked in the rear.

I just spent money on some of those sexy skimpy underwears you never really get to see. My priorities are clearly in order >.>

Tbh I’d probably buy some underarmor too just to get rid of that god awful white onesie that they throw on everyone to push underarmor sales.
