Today, Torchlight Frontiers is turning over a new leaf with its New Beginnings alpha update, which introduces the much-touted Contracts system and adds some other minor fixes and quality-of-life improvements. With the new update, players will get their first look at Contracts, which the devs have described as Torchlight Frontiers’s take on ARPG seasons, with each Contract season offering its own array of unique challenges with a variety of rewards.

The first Contracts season, New Beginnings, will be active as soon as the update goes live today, and it will remain active until April 30th. For the sake of testing the system, during the New Beginnings season, players will be able to claim rewards from both the free and premium tracks, though in the future, players will have to shell out some dough to get access to the premium track.

The devs point out that for this test season, they’ve “held back on too many unique rewards as access to the game is limited by the random alpha invites,” but players can expect future season to be “full of fresh seasonal content including exclusive cosmetics tied to the theme of the season.” Nevertheless, during this season, players can still look forward to earning “a bunch of resources and fort decorations” in addition to Relic and Stash slots and “some legendary Mapworks bundles.”

On top of the new Contracts system, pets have received a buff to their survivability, granting them 50% more base health and reducing the amount of time they need to rest after being knocked out from four minutes to two. And of course, there are a whole slew of other smaller balance adjustments, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes, the full details of which you can find in the patch notes on the game’s official site.
