RIFT’s battle pass will run $9.99 and dole out rewards for doing dailies

Remember when Gamigo asked the community what it thought about the RIFT battle pass without actually telling anybody what was in said battle pass? Good times. Anyhoo, the company finally posted the full run-down of the pass on the game’s forums today.

Apparently, during this first season of the battle pass – which is going to cost $9.99 – players will be offered the chance to progress through 30 levels of daily and weekly quests, from 5-7 a day, and 30 levels of rewards to go along with them.

“Rewards split up between Free (no purchase required), Premium (purchased the pack) & Patron Premium (purchased the pack and have active Patron status). Free rewards include a new artifact set which unlock their own unique rewards, individual reward charges, rune unsocketers, and more premium service items. Premium rewards include numerous fiery cosmetics, as well as the new Great Balls of Fire mount, bonus credits and more! Patrons who unlock premium will also gain bonus rewards including Loyalty, premium lock boxes and more!”

When is it live? “Very soon.” Timing for the end of the season and the start of season hasn’t been defined yet either, though Gamigo says it’ll give out a week’s grace period for reward-claiming.

Wait so now you gotta pay $10 to do dailies and get rewards for it? This monetization crap from Asia is really out of control. I would know. I’m from Asia and I hate every second of it.

That perk should come bundled with the subscription, if they had done that one thing then no reasonable person would have bat an eye.

Everyone is quick to blame Trion directly for this decision when in reality it is a Gamigo idea since the Trion Suits made their escape with Golden Parachutes.

Literally nobody has mentioned Trion being at fault here, aside from your post mentioning it.

Oops, in any case Gamigo doesn’t look much better, at least the game is still running I guess.

Uh? Trion effectively went bankrupt; owned for the benefit of the creditors. Unless Scott has world class “financial engineering” skills, I suspect the employees received closer to Golden Showers than Golden Parachutes from the failure of Trion.

… huh?

Yeaaah, okay. Not going to try to wrap my head around that one.

More like the suits that push this crap because they want record profit and don’t care how it’s achieved :/

welcome to the games industry, where everyone and their sister has to take every idea everyone else came up with and also do it no matter how little sense it makes just in case its a new revenue stream

This is one instance where a ‘battle pass’ really falls apart… In a BR or such where it’s like you just pay for it once every few months and naturally rank it up by playing the game, that makes more sense and feels good. In an MMO where dailies/weeklies/monthlies are already a thing, and you’re encouraged to double-dip by also paying for a monthly sub… this doesn’t make sense at all.

Like, maybe it would make sense as a PvP incentive of sorts. Or participating in some new game mode. But just general dailies/weeklies… yes it’s only $9.99 but the way they get you is by letting you buy further levels and making it super grindy so you have to diligently do it. This just seems like a weird way to get a bit more $ out of Rift.

Paying real money to do dailies.

How appealing.

Warframe can’t even get me to do their daily & weekly chores for free with their Nightwave event. But, Rift players are going to PAY them? If it makes them happy, sure. I hope it doesn’t come to Trove though.
