Star Wars Galaxies Emu stress tests all things Jedi – today

16

There’s a curious air of Star Wars fandom going around this weekend — for no discernible reason that we can identify — and that is being compounded by a stress test of Star Wars Galaxies Emu’s latest build.

SWGEmu’s Publish 10 stress test event is happening this afternoon at 2 p.m. EDT (exactly three hours after this article goes live) as the developers put the new build through its paces. The emulator team is taking down the Basilisk and Nova servers for the duration of the test to focus on all of the testy things. Following the test will be a meet-and-greet with the staff.

Reportedly, Publish 10 adds work on the Imperial Crackdown and Force Ranking systems. Basically, Jedi are coming to the game. Players anticipate that if all goes well with this test, they will hear when this patch is going to launch on live for real.

I know, legends is NGE, but i’m surprised at the depth the game still retained, guild chat is always bubbling with Jedi talk, almost like it’s another form of endgame.

I might actually make a Jedi, and with the upcoming Jedi Showdown (i can’t wait Jedi battles are extremely entertaining to watch in game) i ‘m pretty sure i’ll roll one as there is still a phenomenal amount of work to put into them that i can tell from chat.

Something interesting to me is that the population of most of the SWG EMUs continues to steadily grow – and not just nostalgic old players rediscovering the game, but new people who only ever heard stories about how much folks enjoyed it. I didn’t realize about the new people until I started playing on one of the emulators recently, but there are legit new people joining every day, who never played the original game.

EMU have much more to offer now. Also communities are super-friendly to newcomers.

WTF?

While I know these articles on the various SWG-emulators are written with good intentions, I can’t help feeling concerned that consistently shining spotlights on them could result in the Big Mouse taking notice of them and resulting in action taken against them under the guise of protecting their IP. I would be very sad if undue harm were to come to these projects due to the increase of exposure.

Believe me, the big mouse knows about them, the same way Blizz knows about pservers.

Knowing and caring are two different things. I’m sure they know, but if there is little exposure, and thus not considered competition to any of their products, there is no reason to care. As exposure increases the amount they care may increase and then they may decide to take action (just as Blizzard has against pservers).

Additionally, now that some emus are actually modifying and creating completely new content, the risk of damaging the IP is increasing and thus the Big Mouse may change its tune.

Disney have already damaged the IP themselves, beyond repair.

The last jedi is one of the worst movies ever made for a triple ‘A’ IP/ franchise.

Starwars is dead.

Yeah, Last Jedi was basically a ‘statement’ movie making it clear that this is no longer the Star Wars originally made by George Lucas, but instead Disney’s Star Wars.

I figured it was bound to happen sooner or later, and I’m kind of surprised Force Awakens didn’t have the stones to do it. But Last Jedi pretty much took a big dump on everything that used to be Star Wars and made it clear that this is just another Disney movie franchise.

Can’t believe i’m going to say this, but at least Lucas cared about the universe.

SWG EMU has permission to do what they’re doing. Most others do as well. Check out their individual websites FAQ’s.

The permission your speaking about it pre-dates Disney’s acquisition of the IP and I believe is in reference to SoE (prior to becoming daybreak) sanctioning the projects. I don’t think this permission has been restated by Disney after they’ve acquired the rights to the IP, nor do I believe it is validated in writing.

Research the topic that will leave you more confident than ever.

“Disney’s acquisition” literally ruined any chance of them doing anything about it anyway.

I paid for the game is it my fault there is no sever to play on?

An examples: i paid for a single player SW game, and i mod the crap out of it, can i play that? ofc i f*cking can. What is Disney going to do do about that?

Can i download the free open source and run my own swg server, yep in my own home, nothing they can do about that.

It’s a server, there are so many moving parts here i encourage you to research it a little and you’ll find what i find, time to dive in and play SWG.

I’d be more worried if a company was still running this, then i’d worry about it shutting down.

Big corps learned their lesson, don’t throw flammable fuel on a dwindling fire.

Movies for example, in the underground get movies when i want, all was good. Then in thier infinite wisdom they decided to start posting posters about peeps downloading movies, do you know how many people contacted me after they started doing that incredibly stupid fucking thing?

The idiocy is legendary there, a super small potion knew about this so hey lets put major fucking advertising up at the theaters. Here is all i heard for months and months afterward.

Hey i didn’t know you could download movies, how do i do that, that would be great, i’d love to download movies i wish i knew about this before, i want to learn omfg it never stopped.

The best thing for us would be for D to shine massive news headline floodlight on this, major news and yep now it’s absolutely wildly out of control :) meaning now there is no hope it’s an unstoppable fright train.

SWGEmu was running while SWG was still a live game and they are still going strong.

Part about downloading movies is hilarious. Yeah, that’s how it works.

Well, they shut down Project Apeiron, so… On the other hand I do not think we have to worry just yet. Consider this a hunch, heh.
