World of Warships and metal band Sabaton make over-the-top music video for the Bismarck

Wargaming has never been subtle in its advertising and promotions. It also prides itself in the historical accuracy of its vehicles in its various games. Today, one of its flagship (pun totally intended) games World of Warships launched a music video to celebrate one of its battleship models: The Bismarck.

For those not familiar with this ship, the Bismarck was a German ship intended to conduct raids along the Atlantic coast of Europe and the British Isles. It was one of the biggest ships the German navy had ever built. Perhaps because of its size, because of its power, or both, the Bismarck was seen as a major threat to the British navy, and the German battleship was literally chased around the Atlantic ocean. It made exactly one offensive operation because on May 27th, 1941, the Bismarck was sunk off the coast of France, just eight days after its first launch.

The music video featuring Swedish metal band Sabaton shows the group taking a boat out into the Atlantic to the spot where the Bismarck sank. Of course, the band plays a wildly over-the-top song filled with pride and machismo as it re-lives the Last Battle of the Bismarck. World of Warships provided the ship models used in the video and retained as much historical accuracy as possible, “right up to the timing of each salvo flying over the band’s heads,” according to the press release.

You can see the watch the whole video below, then ask yourself, “Does this make you want to download the Bismarck in World of Warships?”

I’ve seen them live 3 times. Very enjoyable band in a club setting. Good meat & potatoes heavy metal that you just want to bang your head to… lead vocalist Joakim Broden is limited as a singer, but he’s a great front man, charming and funny.

European metal rules! :)

Nice, it was a fan made video of Primo Victoria set to clips from Hellgate:London that first got me into Sabaton.

Then the Winged Hussars arrived.

If by “download” you me hop on my Kagero and unload a few torp salvos into them, then yes! I do so love imagining the panic the other BB player has when I suddenly appear running parallel from around an island. They know 8 torps are coming and there is nothing they can do.

there is something incredibly satisfying about seeing a behemoth of iron and steel shudder and sink from the torpedoes you unleashed on them . The sinking animations in WoWS are truly incredible. Sometimes i queue up Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” and play it as i watch my ship sink beneath the waves, laughing my butt off the whole time. Sometimes I utter lines from the movie as i watch it. #YesIAmWeird LOL

If it’s any consolation (or commiseration) I usually have my Pandora station playing Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Secret Garden style music. Nothing like New Age, Instrumental, World style music while you’re floating (and sinking) tons of steel! :P

Though, I just found out about The Hu (Mongolian Metal) today so my list may change some.

Eyyyy, Sabaton are pretty fun. That’s an expensive piece of marketing there between the song/video and everything else, guess they’re not working with limited budgets at Wargaming : P

It’s a cool video but obviously it has nothing to do with actual gameplay. What it did achieve was remind me about the game. I need something to kill time with until the new City of Heroes servers find some reasonably stable state.

Now I expect Templars to become a new faction or whatever in World of Warships.
