One Shots: Cruising in the Batmobile

Nothing gives me genre whiplash more than seeing technology that’s vastly more advanced from anything in our world existing alongside of an otherwise-medieval realm. But hey, got to whip up those chase items somehow!

And when it comes down to it, Final Fantasy XIV’s cross-over ride is beyond sweet, so I can overlook any immersion violations. JonBuck seems like he’s having fun with the ride: “I managed to grind out all the MGP I needed to get the Regalia!”

Vroom vroom! Let’s do some sky donuts, go pick up Robin, and fight the Joker!

In the gritty post-apocalyptic world of The Division 2, there are only the dead and the survivors. And those bleary, strung-out survivors spend every grueling, stress-filled day combing the city for even the slightest hint of the most important resource of them all: beautifully colored dyes to make their clothes all pretty-like.

Blame Hikari for all of this unnecessary bloodshed as she “finally went dye hunting” amid all of the human suffering and misery in a fallen Washington D.C.

Never thought we would actually get to the day where our eyes would gaze upon the majesty of the Lonely Mountain in Lord of the Rings Online, but as of last year, this is a reality. Reader Joey sent in this scenic shot of the grand summit, and if you squint real hard, you can see a Dwarf sledding down the side of it going “wheeeee!”

“I assure everyone that this is a screenshot from City of Heroes’ first run and Paragon Chat,” posted Skoryy. “I just have to post them for reasons.”

REASONS.

…wait a minute…

Ever get jazzed about one entertainment franchise that sends you off to play in a similar one elsewhere? Deekay Zero knows all about this, baby!

“You can’t fight the future, but you can change it,” he said. “Star Trek Discovery’s finale was beyond badass. This Star Citizen screenshots isn’t quite as amazing, but it’s still pretty sweet.”

Did you miss the weekly screenshot challenges? Fine, fine, they’re back — but you’d better do your best to fulfill them and not make me look foolish! My boss is watching!

Anyway, this week’s challenge is a pretty simple one: fashion show! Let’s see the best outfit that you’ve cobbled together for your character lately.

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

Getting tired having to correct people when it comes to technology in FFXIV.

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Though sometimes it is hard to do such due to major spoilers. Suffice it to say, the technology in FFXIV vastly surpasses FFXV; it’s just not seen in the magic centric Eorzea and is hidden away by forces that make it that way.

It’s hidden so well that there are even Super Computers that are disguised via solid holograms to be made to look like trees and blend in the environment. With those super computers being thousands of years old. Cloning was mastered thousands of years ago, and the construction of Super Humans and other beasts are actually low tier compared to the rest of their technology. Even that of the Garlean Empire is low-tech, which the Regalia borrows some parts from when Garlon Ironworks reverse engineered it. They even managed to completely harness the star’s power via the Crystal Tower, develop interdimensional travel via both technology and magic in addition to moving through space. It could be said that they’re around a Type 2 civilization, whereas we in the real world are only type 0 at present. At least when the most technological beings are concerned. The A.I. has also acquired sentience.

We don’t notice it until we do optional content for various reasons, but one is the fact that Eorzea and her allies are primarily magic and faith based. Garleans are the ones trying to reverse engineer technology that was already reverse engineered by entities before them. To the point where they seem to have begn to dabble with cybernetic enhancements.

Even in 2.0’s content you could acquire a Magitek Armor, which is essentially a super tank of sorts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnfP9qKAbk8&t=

The Allagans were a spacefaring civilization with massive starships. And with the Crystal Tower had managed to travel between shards, too. Extremely high tech…and gone for 5000 years.

Talyia’s 3.5 spring ensemble features CDS’s Omni Role Combat armor Mk. X in pristine Arctic, with patented EdgeCore composite weave technology hiding behind the crisp aesthetics. The armor is accented by a TDR-4 flightsuit in “Twilight” blue to provide a welcome hint of color. Topping things off is a 2947 Venture helmet, with the vaunted anti-scuff laminate faceplate, providing “unparalleled sightlines to whatever wonders you discover.”

Accessorizing the signature look is Klaus and Werner’s iconic Demarco Energy LMG, capable of accurately delivering your most pointed response to uncouth critics and of course, no intrepid explorer would venture to the moons of Hurston without their turtle. Well worth the trip to ArcCorp to find one, we won’t ask how it survives in a vaccuum because it’s the perfect finishing touch.

Simple and a bit elegant, and a frequent favorite spot for screenshots in FFXIV. Here’s my latest outfit my currently being leveled class, White Mage.

1 of 2 followups from the same screenshot session.
Edit: or 1 of 1 – heh, the other screenshot I wanted to share is over the 5MB limit, so I’ll have to adjust that and add it later.

Just because I’m working up a sweat mining for precious ore doesn’t mean I can’t look fashionable, amiright? :)

No fashion show, not even pretty nebulae shots or planetary vistas from me this week.
I will however share a moment on my travels in Elite this week that made me pause and reflect: the moment I visited a memorial for a fellow CMDR.

Servers still buggered atm. Someone posted this rather amusing picture that I thought I would share.

Just imagine the shitshow if the NA servers were affected as well..

I am still reminiscing in Div 2 quite a bit. Here is another spot that bought back an odd memory.

I was in DC at a class/seminar thingie and ended up in a position where I was starving, but had to be somewhere in 15 mins. Although there were many places to eat, it was noon in DC and everything was packed. I spied a fricken hot dog vendor just outside of DOJ and sat down and ate it in this spot at the US Navy Memorial Plaza.

It was like 1999………….and also the last time I ever ate a hot dog.

i love that they emphasize the world so much in this one, on so many levels, wether you want some hardcore hardmode action or casual lightweight wandering about looking for loots in nooks anc crannies.

Ya – I loved what they did with NYC in Div 1 too. Although there are less wandering people out and about in this one it is more dynamic out there.

I am sure this story happens to all of us.
