Doom has overtaken Black Desert in today’s equestrian-centric update

The holiday tomorrow in Europe means delayed patches for some MMOs, but not for Black Desert: You’re getting your patch today. And it’s a doozy, since it brings Doom.

No, literally, Doom is the name of the horse. So that sounds sweet and cuddly. Buuuut it’s a hell horse, so maybe not.

“Kakao Games and Pearl Abyss introduce Doom, the Dream Horse that will fire up Black Desert Online’s servers with today’s maintenance. This new hellish Dream Horse will only accept the fiercest of riders. It is a true achievement for those who are diligent enough to harness their horse training skills. The nightmare has finally arisen from the darkness to show riders its share speed and fierce attacks. Its unique skill Dark Sprint will leave a trail of fire in its path and burn nearby opponents as Doom blazes across the battlefield.”

Sounds like Kakao will be giving you a giant boost to mount training experience for the next two weeks too. Oh, but watch out for dragons – apparently Garmoth is coming for you again.

Finally, Kakao says it’s compensated guilds affected by the flopped North America siege event last weekend.

Tonight at 11…

…DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

People can’t imagine the amount of work needed to breed such a horse.

It’s probably easier and cheaper to breed that horse in real life.

I saw the first word and thought to myself “finally a Doom MMO, I didn’t know I needed this until this very moment. Now let me just read the rest of the headline”. This isn’t quite as exciting as a Doom mmo to be honest.

Aside from the sheer prettiness of the visuals, the whole horse taming/breeding/training thing is what I love most about BDO.

Auto-afk training your horse while doing something else. Sure is engaging. I wouldn’t mind it that much if you could queue it and actually go offline(instead of keeping your pc on and wasting electricity on virtual horse training).

Yeah, I used to try to do it while working, but since I do book cover art it totally bogged my PC down. :/ That was the only thing that I didn’t like, the hours of afk training.

That’s exactly it – I LOVE the horse taming and breeding but it’s just so heavy on the grind and RNG that I’ve given up on it (and BDO as a whole). Running BDO in the background for 1-2 days just to get some horses up to a breedable level just feels so pointless and unfun (I also wish you could at least set it to train the horses while logged off).

Would love to see other games with a less punishing take on creature taming and breeding, including color genetics and other traits.
