The Internet Historian video lays out the sad saga of Fallout 76

This is what you asked for with another Fallout title, guys. This is what your hands have wrought.

As we well know by now, one of the more exciting and promising developments in the MMO space last year ended up being an unmitigated disaster in the form of Fallout 76. Bethesda’s online RPG made grand promises while ultimately fulfilling very few of them, with everything from promotions to customer service to live operation failing spectacularly.

But perhaps you’ve forgotten about the full scope of the saga of this half-year-old game and need a refresher. Enter the Internet Historian, who takes a half-hour to delve into the plethora of ways that Bethesda royally messed up. It’s not only a comprehensive look into the still-ongoing issues but a pretty funny one too, which is why we thought it worth sharing with you today.

I didn’t know all that had happened in the game, but holy crap, I’m not convinced Bethesda deserves to stay in business any longer.

I watched this now that I’m home. It’s hilarious. I had forgotten about some of this stuff.

Oof. I know some folks enjoy 76, but you can argue “well -I- think the game is fine” all day long but it doesn’t excuse downright illegal business practices.

You’re right, it doesn’t. I really appreciate the work the developers did on Fallout ’76. I don’t appreciate that they appear to have been rushed to do it (I genuinely don’t believe anybody in games development for the creativity of it intentionally rushes a project out the door) and I find a lot of the practices Bethesda have been up to to be shady to the point they make Blizzard look good who in turn are currently making EA look pristine.

So, I’m enjoying F’76 a lot but I’d think twice about giving Bethesda (or Blizzard) money next time simply because any pleasure I get out of the creative work is marred by the slimy business practices.

I thought the video was pretty funny, especially as everything he said was true. I am a HUGE Fallout fan but 76 fell so far short of the mark its crazy…and the rest of the blunders, yikes.. back to business school for some folks me thinks lol

Imagine if they just released it as the Fallout 4 expansion/mod it clearly is. All this shitshow unrelated to the usual bethesda bugs just because Todd couldn’t keep his mouth shut. He really is the new Peter Molyneux.

After playing MMORPGs for many years now and with the genre now feeling quite stale to me, Fallout 76 has been a very refreshing experience to play – particularly as a more casual player alongside life/work.

They released the game early and probably marketed it at the wrong people (I see a lot of single player fallout 3+ fans looking for dialogue options, etc) and I think negative reviews tend to work in the favour of YouTube publishers so it’s easier to profit from that kind of content as it spreads more rapidly.

I’m looking forward to them continuing to build & develop the game so it can be worth checking it out for yourself too! :D
