Final Fantasy XIV is getting more glamour dresser storage and glamour plates

Here is a quick summary of the latest interview with Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida: blah blah blah blah more storage in your glamour dresser and more glamour plates, Yoshida out, interview over. The interview does not specify if fireworks were then launched into the room while he wheeled out on a Segway, so we can only assume that he did exactly that. Seriously, absolutely nothing else in the interview will get fans as excited as this revelation because… well, glamour storage.

And it’s not a small expansion, either; Yoshida has stated that the storage will be expanded to 400 spaces from its current 200, although he doesn’t specify how many additional glamour plates will be added. These changes will arrive with the launch of Shadowbringers, so you can start converting things you’ll need for glamour storage now and feel confident that more space will arrive soon. You’ll probably need it.

That’s the only update I really was hoping to hear out of everything else that hadn’t been said yet. They added a bunch of extra clothing near the end of Stormblood and at this point I’m actually removing items from my glamour storage to make room for better stuff.

They really, really need to streamline the whole system and get rid of the like 3 or 4 different systems for storing glamour gear/glamouring gear.

It’s pretty much the most consistently asked-for feature update on any forum, any venue. Delighted to hear it.
More plates is pretty much necessary, as they only have 10 now and there will be what, 18 combat jobs once the expansion comes out, plus 8 DoHs, and 3 DoLs? Essentially, a fully capped character might have nearly 30 different outfits (assuming you want to glam each class).

TBH, the entire FFXIV inventory paradigm is so ridiculously kludgy and broken, it could use a complete revamp. Probably not worth the major amount of work for what would amount to a pretty trivial (but universal) QoL improvement:
– you’d get ALL those spaces for inventory generally, instead of X amount for shoes, X amount for pants, X amount for gloves, etc. No more getting a gear upgrade, saying “put me in my best possible gear” and then not realizing for some time that you DIDN’T actually put it on because your “shoe storage” was full and it went into inventory instead of armory. /sigh. Not that that’s ever happened to me.
– Two simple words would replace something like 22 clicks probably daily for every character in the game: REPAIR ALL /faints dead away at the joy
– think about actually being able have your all your inventory in one place, and maybe a bank, instead of inventory, armory, chocobo bag, as well as up to what, a half-dozen retainers (whose inventory is mutually exclusive, that you can’t have any 2+ open simultaneously)
– maybe even implement a GW2 “auto-use mats from mats storage” thing, as long as I’m fantasizing?

Kinda makes me a little giddy just thinking about how much inventory farting-around this would remove.

The inventory and retainer system is one of the things I really dislike about the game. There are so many clicks needed to check and see what is with which retainer. It makes crafting a real pain in the ass. So much so that I’ve given up on it and just doing gathering.

They did add an option awhile ago to right click and find the item which tells you which retainer has it

I use that, but it’s not enough. If you’re in one of the cities, and the items you need for crafting an item is in a retainer’s inventory, you should able to craft it. Their whole inventory system is just very awkward.
