Star Citizen’s latest concept ship sale is actually for… motorcycles

When DK tipped me this story, I joked that I could just write “Star Citizen. Motorcycles. $450″ and you guys would just go and do your favorite thing in the comments anyway, but we’re gonna do this proper: Star Citizen has just released its latest concept ship sale. And it’s motorcycles.

But it’s seriously cool motorcycles, and a whole bunch of ’em, all based on the original: The Tumbril Ranger CV. They’ve even got wheels this time! It looks like the cheapest buy-in is $30, though of course you can also grab the mega pack for $450 if you for some reason have a burning desire for a whole fleet of bikes – that pack includes the wearables and the pre-existing Tumbril buggies too. Apparently this is something folks in the alpha for the game ask for all the time, although it’s worth noting that you can get “flyable” ground vehicles similar to these right now in the game for just credits.

These bikes will presumably be buyable this weekend by everyone – we expect they’ll be premiered on tonight’s studio video too – but for now, they’re accessible at these prices only to Concierge-level backers, which means the only reason we’ve got pics is that DK shared them with us (thanks so much DK! Check out his YouTube – he does lots of Star Citizen videos).

I am pleased with the subject matter and the all around professionalism of the paper. I am also more than happy with the return time. Now I have time to add a few view points of my own. Overall I am satisfied with this admission service.

This is so incredible, I’m almost beginning to feel bad for those who massively backed that. Oh boy.

Seems my strategy is gonna be to wait until the game is fully established, make a babe character, and find an in-game sugar daddy. :)

Ironically you can buy a real motorcycle for $450.

Last time I played, servers only hold 50 players per universe. I had problems to play with my friends.

Have they improved that?
How many players will be in the same universe at launch?

it’s still 50 players per instance, which is actually the rough goal from 2012. but server side ocs and server meshing which is a priority for both SC and sq42 purposes (and thus being a priority in general) will bring in something not unlike wow’s megaserver tech in a manner of speaker. or perhaps more like eve’s mega shard tech.

currently the best way to group up with friends is to make sure you have each other added in contacts, form a party in the main menu and sync up joing a server together (the party members will be prompted ot press [ when the leader joins the game). otherwise you will often have dificulty due to server you are match made with being full if you do at different times. tho it is possible to join friends’ servers.

So, that was what DS meant by a multiplayer instanced game, not a MMO.

it’s got about the same level of match making with friends or better right now that gw2 had at launch… tho anet fixed that within some weeks some what after launch.

beyond that, usually when people talk instances in mmo’s they mean dungeons battlegrounds arenas raids and gw2/sto type world maps. sc’s instances as i call em are really shards with persistence of a degree shared between them.

there’s alot of work to be done in this area, but it could certainly be far worse even if already launched let alone admitted early access compared to the mmorpg genre’s offerings.

Well, 50 seems ok for an alpha. I’m guessing it’ll be increased accordingly.

50 was the goal in 2012, which the mmo sites of the day were falling over themselves to assure chris roberts was actually mmo teir stuff (this is before anything was playable, save maybe the solo only hangar).

but yeah they are looking to extend past that, alot of it depends on how well the server side ocs/server mesh stuff goes when it’s at that critical spot where it all comes together. which they have gone into detail about some of the specific challenges as well as just reiterating that the work towards that touches every part of the game (which is always why it’s important to sq42 as well as the “mmo” part of the thing).

they’ve done ptu only tests of upwards of 70 players in a server in 34 and 33 and i think 32 and 31 as well. not amazing maybe but yeah, perhaps umm illustrative? at one point i was hoping we’d get a short period of time with more than 50 players in a server just prior to them adding planets beyond crusader, thinking it would be some of the funnest pvp in the game todate but.. i mean it ended up being some of the funnest pvp in the game to date just without the extra large pop cap lol

anyways i am gonna go look for them spectrum dev posts relevant here for ya. hopefully i left them somewhere easy to scroll to lol

i think the game is a lot of fun. and with this or any other game i don’t think overselling or misleading people about a game i enjoy is going to give the best impression of myself or the game long term.

anyways i just like making videos of games i play and talking about games i play. i know there’s interest in this game here but not alot of useful information coming from anywhere. so i share a bit for friends and and what not that read here.

i am pretty content to recieve a few views and the odd referal code usage from people being nosy enough to find where i put the referal code link. maybe i can parlay w/e this shit is in to something more in the future if i need to but for the time being i don’t and it’s quite enjoyable to chat and make vids about a game i enjoy, just like any other.

my only wish is that people both in the fandom* and in the so called “hater” side of things would be … less about w/e is in the weekly marketting spam or youtube talking head tldw video and more about the state of the game these days. i recognize that for years the game client state was not a place that was worth engaging with directly. i genuinely feel that has changed even if i agree with the premise that even good early access is not for everyone and even if it is YMMV.

idk this is the only game i’ve played since skyrim launched that i truly enjoy playing solo full time even if i do really want some of my gaming buds to join in now and then with me. the nice thing is that for the time being they can in super casual manner now and then without too much fuss. the bad news is alot of the multi crew stuff is either non functional or needs alot of work to be worth slotting people in those stations (ie turrets) still, regardless of what people say is funner previously.

and ultimately, i feel the progress is there, it’s substantial, and as i complained about the lack of at length not that many moons ago, we are seeing that progress on our desktops first hand rather than in weekly markettting spam videos alone.

* i wanted to note, i’ve always had positive experiences in game. there’s the occasional rude person but really it’s one of the nicer in game chats i’ve had. over the past year or so i’ve explored the fandom/player community more i’ve found a very nice cross section of folks that all have their own desires day dreams and what they get out of the game in the current state. and very few of them are anywhere near the level of joe blobers these days. most backers who play the game are pretty good humour about all the things. they just don’t care for disconnected FUD about the game they play like active players enjoying any other game tend to.

as always i tend to react badly to copy pasta and memetics that are presented as someone’s own thought despite having read it a half dozen times prior to coming to the SC article of the week here.

i don’t think i grabbed all the relevant links (this dev was answering a lot of relevant questions on this topic that day) but

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50259/thread/server-meshing-dependent-on-full-persistence/2110455

hopefully this gives better insights to where things are at on the question of server populations and really more… and what challenges adn roadblocks are needing to be overcome, work done etc to get there. i know alot of the work to be done stuff is stuff that is work in progress for a while now. not sure how much is done and not sure they communicate that (it’s kind of very abstract in a manner of speaking as well as touching every part of the code if that makes sense so reasonable that it woudl be difcult to comms on specifically)

Thanks for the answer. We do what you say, the problem comes when someone shows up and there is no space left in the server.

this is true of all servers at some point. but yeah, they need to flesh it out further ofc, alot further.

This is another game where the development is more entertaining than the game will ever be if it does release in some distant future. It’s more fun as vapourware.

Reader
James Abner

Oh really, could you please explain how all the Twitch channles and YouTube videos are video captured if this game is vaporware like you claim.

What’s hilarious is these young to middle age adult men are doing in the “game, what kids use to do when they didn’t have video games and cell phones, who would go out back with nothing to do and make shit up. It was called, back in my day, using your imagination. We would pick up sticks and use our imagination with friends to play game (or ride bicycles instead of buying them as micro-transactions).. and since there is nothing to do in SC except move boxes, these “players” are just using their imagination to come up with things to entertain themselves. Sad they couldn’t do something like go to the lake, or have a barbecue instead (and see girls in their natural habitat). But I guess when you’ve put hundreds and thousands of dollars into something, you either get salty and bitter about not having a working game (or even a complete foundation of core systems and gameplay mechanics, hell, im pretty sure the GDD isnt even complete) or being able to get a refund. Or you go all in and love the game so much you defend it no matter what, or even preach like an evangelical how much others should love it through forums, twitch and youtube channels.
I just want to live long enough to see persistence in the PU (its an arbitrary measure, but I might actually see it in my lifetime.. a stable release? not so much), Im thinking somewhere around 2022-2025 if were being optimistic.

this is my bike, the company is no longer producing these

so yeah, I got a Ranger, finally a price point that doesn’t make me wince

but to the point, you guys need to step it up with the criticism, I’m only seeing the same tired comments, its like Groundhog Day every Thursday in here

I play/test every day, its still got a long way to go, but there is a lot of good stuff going on with Star Citizen, so much that I often smile and laugh a little at some of the craziest stuff I read in here

ps I spent a lot more on chrome than I’ll ever spend on spaceships, but I have faith that both will be worth it

some nice lookin bikes.

i came close to getting my m1 as a kid as bikes are just so much more economical than cars. but people kept feeding me horror stories of both accident frequency and police ticketing stuff.

plus its a pain in the winter.

oh there was also the time i fell off the moped and roughed up my leg a bit cuz i instinctively used the brakes as you would on a pedal bike. that was a pretty convincing argument lol

Definitely one of the more dangerous hobbies out there. I’ve been riding legally on the street for over thirty five year. I’ve hit the pavement five times and though I hope to never again, I rationally know the odds are I will again. Due to the winters up where your at I’d definitely recommend it only as a secondary/hobby vehicle.
