Age of Conan celebrates 11 years of operation with an anniversary event

How long? For what?

It turns out that the age of Age of Conan now goes to eleven, as the game is celebrating its 11th anniversary this year. There’s right, more than a decade of the game, and the only proper way to celebrate that is to go forth, crush your enemies, and see them driven before you. Failing that, of course, you can enjoy the new anniversary event which includes a new mount and pet for those who take advantage of daily login rewards from May 9th to the 30th.

The classic anniversary quests of Acheronian Soul and Shadows of the Past are also available during the anniversary celebrations, along with a special chest that can be unlocked after completing any given daily challenge. Check out the full rundown of the anniversary activities, perhaps best enjoyed while you sit on your computer beside a raging fire while chewing on a roast leg of meat. Hey, everyone has an aesthetic.

Wait, are they actually supporting their own game again, or is this just for PR?

And also almost no updates while Funcom milks the IP.

I really enjoy Age of Conan, I come back to it every once and awhile and level to 80. It’s a very underrated game in my mind, particularly in 2019 when MMOs have almost no character at all. I’ll trade some wonky, undercooked features happily for some even decent creativity and world building.

Seven years of basically maintenance mode and four years of previous promises not kept. 11 years of could have been. Nope, can’t get me back, ever.

This is one of the titles I really, really wish they’d revisit instead of (in my view) wasting their time with their survival sandbox. (I know it’s not actually wasting time, since it seems successful, certainly moreso than AoC).

So MUCH effort was spent by the devs that really loved REHs universe to bring it to life, I really hold this up on a par with LotRO in terms of IP faithfulness. I wish this was ‘enough’ of a game to inspire that level of devotion by fans.

…But let’s be honest, Conan was pulp, while LotR was the mainstream birth of fantasy literature (Mervyn Peake fans just shut up. :) ). The game had some great ideas, but the implementation was so shitty and oversold…well, how’s that crafting update coming along?

I feel if this title shuttered, something that visualizes that world so thoroughly would really be a loss.

And this is an AOC that’s not even terrified by garbage disposals!

I still believe that Exiles will be the foundation of Age of Conan 2.

That’s swell. They get beards working on the character selection screen yet?
