Astellia’s gear can level up with you – or de-level if you are a failure

Astellia may just boast one of the smallest gear setups in any modern MMO with just five slots, but don’t let that deceive you: This upcoming MMO has a surprisingly deep customization system for each piece.

Old or useless gear can be broken down for parts to use to enhance current gear, allowing weapons and armor to be boosted to up to six levels above its default. Past that, you’ll need to “evolve” your gear into the next bracket, which seems like it came be done up to the level cap. There is the chance of failure for upgrading gear (because who doesn’t love that mechanic?). And if you fail, you might actually de-level your gear. FUN.

Another way to power equipment is to slap runes on them to give them specific offensive or defensive bonuses. There doesn’t seem to be a downside of doing this.

We should be seeing Astellia this summer, but if you’re craving more info, check out our exclusive deep-dive into the Warrior and Scholar classes, and when you’re done with that, give the soundtrack a listen!

RNG gear system, probably with some sort of cash shop consumable to prevent the negative side? FFS the more we hear about this the more like the rest of the abusive crapware it sounds.

I’m all for making systems to level gear. I’m 100% against the RNG crapfest that typically comes with P2W effects.

I don’t understand the need developers have of tossing punishing gameplay into their games.

because otherwise the game is boring af.. theres no reason behind doing anything because everyone can do it without losing anything… makes a pretty boring game to me

There’s a difference between making a game exciting and making a game punishing.

Sounds like an enchanting rng progression system. No thanks, I’m done with that type of treadmill.

I’m sure none of those items will be in the Korean Cash Shop. This unreal3 pos was dead before they found it in the back dumpster

De-level is never a good idea, but the idea of gear upgrading with you is actually a cool one.

I mean, it reminds me of the first interaction of Ragnarok 2 – Gate of the New World if i remember correctly. All classes had a weapon you would upgrade as you would level. You could name it and such.

I remember this in a little game called Twin Saga. They called it Fuse. Made low-level gear useful and not just vendor trash.

RNG that can downgrade your gear that you NEED for playing current content?

Who thought that this was a good idea, contrary to all of the failed games that have implemented similar stuff before?

Dead On Arrival.

Interesting – I played Conquer Online from 2003 to 2009 non stop and small returns made to it. The first thing that attracted me there was gear could be worked(enchanted etc) and same type you could level it(with some typical RNG) so it was growing with you. TQ had used same system on other games, some of which are now shutdown, like Zero Online(shut down), Warlords Online(shutdown), Crazy Tao(shut down) and Eudemons Online.

I believe its a nice system which I prefer instead changing the gear I worked on every x levels
