Square-Enix posts annual revenues up, MMO revenues down with ‘brisk’ subs ahead of FFXIV expansion

More companies with MMOs and MMO-adjacent games dropped financials this week.

At Square-Enix, net sales for the the year were up 8%, though for MMOs specifically – including Final Fantasy XIV – revenues were down slightly YOY. “Net sales and operating income decreased compared to the prior fiscal year, which had seen the launch of expansion packages for Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Quest X, but recurring subscription revenue remained brisk,” the letter to investors says. Since 2019 is an expansion year for FFXIV, one might assume a year from now the MMO report will be much improved.
