Battle Bards Episode 145: Dark Age of Camelot

5

It’s Bard vs. Bard vs. Bard in this show, as the trio of MMO video game music lovers take sides in the Dark Age of Camelot debate! This tri-realm PvP game is rather unique for having published an “inspired by” album featuring music not in the game at all in addition to the actual soundtrack. So why not review both? Syp, Syl, and Steff are more than up for the task!

Battle Bards is a the world’s first, best, and only MMO music podcast. Biweekly episodes alternate between examining a single MMO’s soundtrack and exploring music tracks revolving around a theme. MOP’s Justin co-hosts with bloggers Steff and Syl. The cast is available on iTunesGoogle PlayTuneInPocket CastsStitcher, and Player.FM.

DAOC is not what it used to be, totally different game now. But theres a freeshard called DAOC Phoenix which launched a few month ago has a healthy pop and based in the SI expac which is where daoc was at its best. Great fun on there.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed this. DAoC was my first real MMO after I tried (and failed) to play EQ. I spent a lot of time in that game, and I think there’s still a lot of great things they did in that game that other designers could learn from. The music was always one of the highlights.

If all the other Battle Bards episodes are as good as this, I think I’ve got a new podcast to listen to.

My son and I sometimes listen to the soundtrack CD from 2002 to relive our times of playing DAoC together. Even though the songs are inspired by DAoC rather than in the game itself, they still evoke our memories of playing the game and fighting for our realm.

Still my favorite MMO of all time.
