Star Citizen pushed alpha 3.5.1 and ship customization to the PTU

It’s happening: Star Citizen’s next iteration, alpha 3.5.1, has rolled out to the PTU. Of course, as usual, this is for the early waves of testers – concierge levels, subbers, and random invitees. Included in this version of the patch is the new Origin 2949 300 series ship “alongside manufacturer-level ship customization and complimentary test-flights” – that’d be the ship customization detailed last week.

“When test-pledging for a new ship with customization options available, there will be an additional button on the test-pledge store page to allow a player to apply their personal touches immediately after completing the test-pledge. If you already own a customize-able ship, there will be a customize button on the test-pledge when viewed in the My Hangar interface. For this initial rollout, you will be able to customize the 300 series hull color, cockpit finish, yoke, seat (model, material, and finish), bedding, decorations/flair, and select from various component packages (powerplant, cooler, weapons, etc).”

There are already videos up deep-diving the customization system.

It’s not cheap – one image passed along to us by of MOP reader and streamer DK shows CIG selling decorative packages including plants, clocks, and even a coffee – sorry, kofi – machine.

And here’s a look at the inside of the custom Origin 325a courtesy of DK!

Origin 300 Series – All Exterior Colour Options

Want a little drama to go with the patch? It looks as if Crytek’s attorneys of record at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom have withdrawn from the Crytek v. Cloud Imperium lawsuit, having been replaced with the Davidson Law Group.

so my video above of the 325a apparently the customization bugged and only saved the custom weapons. i will try to post an updated video here in the comments tonight.

anyways;

i’m pretty dissapointed in the wording of that qna last reported on. in particular the way it’s phrased to imply/insinuate there are ship cosmetics for sale in game or will by any time soon. there are not. all these ship cosmetics for the 300 series are cash only.

which would really would be fine, if they didn’t throw the ship component packages also on sale here in such a way that combined them with the implication cosmetics were among the items for sale in game (currently the only in game ui element for in game ship cosmetic is skins, which you can swap the skins if you’ve got multiple 300 series ships looks like but cannot buy the skins piece meal).

perhaps this could’ve been ok with the phrasing as is with even a voyager direct style option (the cosmetics are only available on the website… so… why not give a for credits option?). but that’s not there either, and so we are left with the curiously phrased qna entry that boils down to wtff my dudes adn has fanboys defending CIG in the most rediculous ways just to defend them without understanding thenature of the complaint.

i don’t care that they are selling them – i think the prices of the cosmetic items are more than reasonable. i care about how it was communicated. and the way it was communicated is just entirely unnecessary.

here’s a vid with the properly customized 325a. also a bit of a ling delivery mission (300i loaner owners will remember boxes did not like her at all in 350), and a bit of a tax beacon thing in action due to known despawn issues. featuring a nice little bit of footage i’m going to have to cut into it’s own vid tomorrow. cheers

As to the lawsuit: Gotta wonder if the Law Firm saw the writing on the wall (or submitted a bill and got stiffed by the Crytek pinciples) – and the Firm taking over did so on a % deal (IE a straight % off any Judgement/Settlement; and they think they can get some sort of small monetary settlement deal out of CIG.) Either way, it honestly appears Crytek’ dreams of a HUGE company saving award in their favor is even more DoA; and at this point, I kinda doubt CIG will give them anything as in the end Crytek really had no case – but, time will tell.

As for Alpha 3.51 on PTU – IMO still a mess in many areas, and I’m really wondering why they split dev staff for an incremental patch and instead don’t just get everyone trying to fix more issues from Alpha 3.6 due around the end of June. Their target pip mechanics, and weapon firing and convergence/hit code need a lot of work still.

Legal:
Just talking of cuff here but since the court document doesn’t state the reason for the change in counsel, to me it seems like Crytek didn’t like the settlement options or the direction the case or legal could not provide the expected outcome and thier legal team parted ways for this case against CIG. There could be several other reasons for the need to continue under another firm but as high enough profile and cost of this case will be, its a great opportunity to put a feather in a law firm’s cap.

Game:
Finally some real customization! At the cost of which does truly concern me. $9 for a foodmaker, coffee, sound sytem hanging picture and clock sounds reasonable to me IF they actually function in-game. Food makers are suppose to relieve hunger, replenish health? A sound system would be awesome if we could use Spotify or even more likely, Amazon Music. With a broadcasting van in the MISC Reliant Mako, I can see a great opportunity for functionality. Hopefully we can import own own images for picture frames, banners and the like.

Development:
Content Manager, JH seems to be more confident in what he’s conveying in episodes these days. The pipeline for planets, locations and ships are really moving along. It was mentioned that the next solar system is more than halfway fleshed out? And the they are already either planning, laying the ground work or building out thier next 5 systems with 10 systems promised for a ‘launch’. Ship and player player model customization is a great milestone sign and quest giving still appears to be in the experimental phase. Where are the career mechanics?! As you know, having a reason to play is the main draw for many who want to really dive into the game.

Outlook:
I feel like where we should have been in 2017 but to CIG’s benefit, the gaming industry is in a state of apathy and stagnation that CIG could afford to make that initial mistake on. With the likes of what EA, Rockstar, Activision, etc are putting themselves and thier customer base through, CIG are no angels but atleast they appear to be on track and doing it right the first time around. Time will tell how fair they are to the cu$tomers.

your post kind of reminds me of how great Second Life is. You can make anything, script it, so that it does what you intended. Home entertainment systems stream from youtube or other sites. There is a laptop called the Pear (haha) that can actually surf the web and email the outside world from inside the game, etc. etc.

A real shame that game doesn’t get any love here, because it’s the most amazing, free, and creatively-empowering game ever made. Maybe that ever will be.

Personification, creativity, social complexity, business.. SL is one of those games I’ve decided I needed to stay away from because I know myself and it would be easy to get sucked in. It’s an amazing game and going on 15 year? Shows that the concept and its community have a lot of staying power.

as i say above i’m dissapointed in teh messaging on the cosmetics system. but the prices generally seem fine. also keeping in mind the ship gear “upgrade” packages you can buy for them are available in game for money and it ends up being a convenience thing especially if it 110% turns out to be true that custom loadouts are fully insured/saving/etc on reclaim… there’s been some hints otherwise but the leak discord is proving more and more unreliable on this patch than previous so…

btw fixed works again, pips are decent, and missiles are working. only thing is they seemed to nerf my sabre’s yaw/turn rate values :(

oh and yeah alot of the stuff like the items you mention tie directly both to teh survival mechanics as well as fleshing out the travel stuff that has been so “controversial” lately.
