Star Citizen announces the first sale dates for CitizenCon tickets and hints at persistence in 3.6

16

It’s almost CitizenCon season, which is most definitely an odd sentence to be typing about a sandbox MMO that hasn’t even neared full release yet, but then these are odd and interesting times in which we live. Star Citizen‘s annual fan convention is nearly here, and the first wave of tickets has its sale dates.

Ticket sales will be arriving in little bundles of 125 tickets, starting with two bundles of 125 this Thursday, June 27th, at two different times for Concierge and Subscribers and then two more bundles on Friday, June 28th, for all backers. A link to buy your passes to the event will likely be waiting at the CitizenCon website at the appointed hour for those interested.

In other Star Citizen news, a video posted by the devs earlier this month has the community chatting among itself. The video talks about plans and features for alpha 3.6, and one of those is the inferred inclusion of full persistence that won’t see everyone’s progress get reset with every major patch. This sort of update would also open the gateway to new systems like the need to insure spaceships and cargo loads. Whether this is going to be outright available in 3.6 and possibly the signal for the end of most server wipes is certainly something up for debate; you can check out the video timestamped to the start of this part of the discussion and judge for yourself.

i guess certain wanna be youtube influencers have taken upon them selves to run with the bit of chris spitballin off the cuff as usual to “CONFIRMED NO WIPES WITH SSOCS” or something. lol.

good times.

anyways improvements to persistence is only a good thing. we’re about somewhere around STO levels of persistence right now and i’d like to see those extra little bits within the mechanics flesh out into the baseline scenario state for the design docs as outlined (ie don’t expect to log in from where you logged out – outside of a bed – we’ve already got them disconnection reconnect stuff working decently. ships are saved in the state you left them but… there’s alot of very nuanced subtle stuff that’s not there yet for sure. notwithstanding the ups and downs of the ongoing “garbage collection” aggression which despawns our ships in unintended fashion LOL).

it’ll be nice when we cross the threshold with match making from the more menu ish based paradigm right now to a more… elegant and seemlesss. idk that they have outlined plans there, perhaps it’s a component of ssocs (as ssocs integrates here based on clive’s dev posts) or perhaps an unrevealed goal for 4.x …

speaking of which seeing some grumbles and mumbles for 4.0 and beyond not being on the road map at we make steady progress towards that 3.9 versioning. as many of us are aware many 3.x milestone features get pushed back to the next and beyond so i’m definitely curious to see what they do version number wise as i’ve always had a strange fascination with software version labeling.

This just adds the the impression I have of a game that is in development hell . I am sure they were hinting at persistence several years ago .

there are different degree of persistence in the online/mmo space.

right now they’re not too far off your typical mmo (outside of the wipes and the spawn location mechanics).

Am I the only one that can literally TASTE the irony of the term “Citizen Con”?

A Con for a game that’s not even out yet. I supported the game when it had a Kickstarter, but….con is right. As in Roberts is a con man.

it’s had a convention for like 5 or 6 years mate…

… and the 1.2 millions Backers are all stupid, unable to understand real Triple-A development from scratch, read two roadmaps or see and test progress done through each quarterly patch…
The con man and his brother always delivered good to memorable games.

CitizenCon over years have been paid by Subscribers and tickets sales. This is an opportunity for thousands of backers (+1500 in the same theater last year) to meet the team and celebrate while not impacting pledges funds.

we don’t have a granular break down of what each part of their marketting apparatus cost over the years (this includes but is not limited to the website and forums, their video spam, and their conventions). and we don’t know how much sponsors like amd intel and amazon have contributed to the funding there of.

but we do know in their previous financial disclosure they were running marketting at a loss vs subscription revenues. idk that tickets for the events were included or itemized in the disclosure.

we don’t know if in game materials like the sabre raven that have not been sold but given out to convention attendees (re: swag) are attributed to development costs or marketting costs either.

anyways, they’ve visibily reduced their marketting expenditures over the past year or two now. i’d like to see if future financial disclosures back that up or not.

Roberts hasn’t successfully directed a game since Strike Commander several decades ago.

What pays for the rest of CIG’s massive marketing campaign, the hundreds of polishes videos etc? Manifestly they have been using backer money for years not to make a game but to draw more money in.

Manifestly Night Train123 you don’t understand how much cost to build a company from scratch and have a payroll of +500 per month to develop two Triple-A over years.
Erin Robert never stopped to make games and Chris did made very good games involving space ships or fighter, at a time technology and funds were much more difficult to use or get. Talented individual at worst improve a bit or a lot over time… despite others.

SQ42 Beta in 4 quarters, sharing most assets and tech with SC.

At least backers pledges are used to create something Publishers don’t care to deliver. My best ever 45$ spent in 3 decades of games.

Not wiping every patch would be a milestone. As soon as they integrate personal hangar bays into the P/U, let the stock piling of cargo begin!

They were hinting at persistence coming after the ArcCorp module got released, which was 4 damn years ago….

This game is totally a case of believe it when you see it.

we’ve been at about STO levels of persistence outside of wipes and spawn mecahnics for a while now…

it’s development, not allatoncement
