Final Fantasy XIV releases its patch notes for the Shadowbringers expansion

Now don't kiiiiiiiss

It’s time for patch notes! Sure, players still have a couple of days before Final Fantasy XIV throws wide the gates for early access into the Shadowbringers expansion, but the patch notes are available right now in… well, some of their glory. Seriously, these are the preliminary notes with certain things specifically not listed; we all know the dance by now. (And if you don’t, remember, Dancer is one of the jobs being added for this particular expansion.)

Players hoping to find teases of heretofore unannounced content like the mysterious sixth zone added with the expansion or naming conventions for the two new races will be sadly disappointed, but apparently you can also get bags of nuts for taking on elite marks in Norvrandt. There’s also the simple joy of having all the changes and additions listed in one place, so go ahead and read through the extensive patch notes now ahead of of the patch maintenance. Players will also be able to get news updates about the game pushed to their phones with the companion app, so that’s a nice addition.

If you’re planning to push through the content as fast as possible, we also do have a survival guide for the early access period of Shadowbringers.

I finally got Bard to 70 yesterday. Only my second combat Job I’ve maxed out. Otherwise I need to start playing all the other Jobs…

I want to play Hrothgar, but it’s really hard to play alts in this game because of the time investment needed. And I’m reluctant to fantasia my main.

Agree with you there. I *love* the lack of NEED to have an alt, but am a little sad that it’s so far the other direction in it being actually hard to run an alt.

But no Nag-lantis?

Bracing myself for:
– vast numbers of bunny chicks everywhere
– a sudden horde of terribad tanks in lvl60+ instances as people start gunbreakers without a) much/any experience tanking, b) any gradually-accumulated knowledge of how the class’s systems work

This is the first FF14 expansion I’ll have gone through, but I would expect like most MMOs once GUN and DNC are live en masse, as well as 71-80 abilities, within a couple of weeks we’ll have a wave of balance/tweaking patches as well. Unless SE is markedly better about their betawork than most other MMO firms.

The tank thing probably won’t be that bad. Back in HW you had DRK’s fresh out of picking up the first sword in ishgard in Brayflox’s Longstop who has no idea keeping the dragon in the poison healed it. We just explained it and had no problem. Now they are making it a lot easier to hold threat so its probably going to be easier this time around.

Maybe.

You’ll definitely see bunny chicks, but I don’t think it’s going to be an overwhelming amount.

I also doubt you’ll experience much of a problem with the tanking in lvl 60+ instances. FFXIV tanking is actually less challenging than being DPS if you exclude that the tank is expected to lead and know every fight intimately. On top of that, the people playing this class will mostly be people who have gone through all of this content and know the fights well.

Thanks, that’s a fair statement.
I generally love tanking but have oddly stayed away from FF14 content specifically because of that “need to lead through the instance”. I mained WHM to 70, and then got AST and SCH/SMN to 70 as well so I’ve clearly done pretty much all the instances multiple times…but as a healer, honestly, I don’t necessarily feel like I even know the fights aside from ‘don’t stand in fire’.
