Final Fantasy XIV offers updated job guides ahead of Shadowbringers early access

Some people will burn themselves in hopes that their tormentors will relent.

Today you will see vacant stares and distant wistfulness of the faces of all Final Fantasy XIV players as they dream of the upcoming early access period starting tomorrow. Expect lots of rewatching of job action trailers and such. But you can get the smallest taste of what to expect with the new and updated Job Guide on the official site, walking you through all of the new abilities for all of the game’s jobs.

The full rundown of abilities for both Dancer and Gunbreaker are included, along with the updated actions for everything else in the game. It also contains helpful recaps of the expected combos and ability synergy, so while it’s not the same as practicing ahead of time, this is the design in the game as of the build you’ll be playing tomorrow. No more carefully inspecting tooltips from beta builds! Now you can just get yourself fixated on something a bit more recent before Friday’s early access. You can also give our survival guide one last check, if you prefer.

I know theres this whole “dont talk about it, the team can do nothing wrong” mentality on places like the reddit and the forums but i really, really don’t like the AST changes. Its making every card basically a 15 second cleric stance you drop on people and everything else is chasing the 3 symbols for a spell. It sucks. The current system is green=defensive buff, red=offensive, blue=mp regen, yellow=tp regen and so on. With options for greater strength or aoe from royal road. It was fun, it felt more than just being a healer turret and it was my favourite mmorpg healer system ever.

This new system is ass. It looks like they brained the class to try and make it easier for new players to spite the existing players. Its like something out of Blizzards playbook for class design not Squares and i really hope it goes the way of ‘Bards can no longer move and attack’ or i’m not going to be healing in the game anymore.

Yeah, this has got to be a joke or some idiot mistake because they just took the only really interesting healer in the game and completely lobotomized it for what? WTF is SE thinking with these changes?

I get where you are coming from and I agree, to a point. I’m going to wait and see how the jobs actually play in the new content before I pass final judgement.

Must be an error, every one of the AST cards says
“Increases damage dealt by a party member or self by 6% if target is ranged DPS or healer, or 3% for all other roles.”

…oh wait, that’s what they intended.
/sad.

So ive heard that you can play up to 35 in the base game for free.

Anyone know if this applies to accounts that already exist, that have let their subscriptions end?

Ive got a level 46 character, but Im curious to see how the game play now, and wouldnt mind starting a 2nd character to 35. While I could just make a new account to do so, if I end up liking it, id want that character to be on the account where I already own expansions and stuff (ie: id just resub again and play past 35)

Iirc it’s a 14 day trial but I might be wrong.

Aye, it used to be but they changed it to an unlimited one capped at 35.

Oh, good, very smart of them. That gives you not only enough time to play around with different classes but you also can dip into the beginnings of each job, too. Way better than WoW’s heavily outdated trial.

Agreed. Arguably WoW’s did improve once they added level scaling to the old world as there were more places you could go and visit – but it doesn’t change the fact there’s not really enough of a skill set on many classes by level 20 to work out how it is going to play.

My experience (late last year) was that you need to start a new free trial account to play for free up to 35 – it also installs a slightly different client for some reason.

let’s hope it doesn’t turn out like it did when CBS decided to try an ‘origianl’ live action series in the vein of (popular at the time) Dungeons & Dragons tabletop/pencil and paper RPG:

Yikes!

Oh man! I watched that in my youth when it was new. I loved it I think, but I was in my early teens so, not best judgement!
