Elder Scrolls Online swaps midyear events over game performance, Elder Scrolls Legends launches Moons of Elsweyr

Traditionally, as we approach the middle of the year, Elder Scrolls Online pushes out the Midyear Mayhem PvP event. But you might have noticed that isn’t the order of things this year, as this week ZeniMax announced it was running a celebration event for the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood DLC instead.

“In light of our ongoing work to improve game performance and the Activity Finder, we are holding the Midyear Mayhem event until next year to ensure that the player experience is a good one. In its place, we are moving forward the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood Celebration Event, which will run from July 2 to July 15, and will give players the chance to earn the Event Tickets needed to start the Onyx Indrik mount evolution.”

So PvPers are apparently a bit miffed at the postponement, but the replacement events roll on, with double rewards in the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood zones and content, the requisite DLC sale, and ticket events for the latest Indrik mount evolution.

In other Bethsoft Elder Scrolls news, The Elder Scrolls Legends MMOTCG this week launched its latest expansion, Moons of Elsweyr.

So I just gotta get this off my chest. “Elsweyr” is the stupidest name in video game history. For those that may not know it’s literally pronounced “Elsewhere”… as in the writers were so completely out of ideas that they literally named their xpac “Elsewhere” and somehow everyone bought into it. I’m amazed the voice actors can say it without laughing. What can I say, though… I’ve yet to see anyone complain about it, so I guess it’s just me. Game on! I’ll see you guys in “Elsewhere”! ./rollseyes

Go blame the right people. It’s been in the games forever.

Postponement means it will take place, but at a later time. This was a cancellation done in a comment to a thread about a replacement event. They didn’t even have the courtesy to make an announcement about it, explain their decision, or lay out their “5 year plan” on addressing performance issues.

Also cancelling an event 6 days before it was supposed to start is not something that’s funny to make jokes about. It’s quite pathetic and an absolutely horrible way for a company to treat a segment of their playerbase.

It’s pretty embarrassing that ESO has been dealing with all kinds of technical issues since launch. Server lag, client lag, endless loading screens, broken zoning, maintenance gone wrong, you name it they have it. They didn’t choose their engine and backend software wisely.

Yes because normally MMORPGs are technically flawless and most need no performance enhancements ever. *cough* *rolls eyes*

ESO’s downhill performance creep has nothing to do with the normalcy of the genre. Talk to someone whose played the game for 6 years, yes a year of Beta like myself, and you’d find out more than making generalized statements in a pointless defense of a company not deserving of such.

May just be me but I’m fine with pushing back an event that requires better LFG and improved game performance than sticking with a poor performing event. Dolmens have taught me that culling is an issue that needs to be addressed.

One of ESO’s big problems right now is its matching systems for sure. I’d say 1/3 battlegrounds I enter completely derp out because of queue stalling or someone dropping and borking the match.

I still struggle to understand how Indrik mount evolution works. I have wanted the Onyx one so this is apparently the time for me to get it. But only one of the four berries needed will be available this event — is that right? So I will need to wait for 3 more events before evolving it?

Yup that’s how ESO likes to do it. Also, if you already evolved an Indrik mouth you will also need to start getting the feathers all over again as well.

My mount is just a normal “nascent” one, with no berries fed. So this will be a blank-slate Onyx. But…it seems like it will take FOREVER.

It does. And when this first launched I thought they were permanent additions to the game. But they aren’t. If life happens or you otherwise miss a few extra days you can’t get the mount. So players have done a lot of work and have nothing to show for it because they can’t finish their berry collection.

The mount skin acquisition seems far too long. I was reading comments on this a while back and it’s just so much work and waiting for just skins on an already obtained mount.
